Use an AI Overview in Google Chat

Feature availability

• This feature is rolling out gradually as part of the Gemini Alpha. Only some Gemini Alpha users will have access to this feature.
• You may not have access to some or all of these features.
• Your administrator controls access to the Gemini Alpha. If you can't find these features, your administrator may not have Alpha features enabled for your organization.

To quickly find info from your Chat conversations, you can ask questions or enter keywords in the Chat search bar. Based on this, Chat generates an AI Overview that can:

• Locate specific information or messages across your full Workspace profile.
• Understand past discussions or outcomes mentioned.
• Find attachments without extensive search.

Search your Google Chat conversations

Important:

• If you use search operators, like is:unread or from:, you won’t get an AI Overview.
• Search within any conversation or space doesn’t provide an AI Overview.

To get an AI Overview in Google Chat:

1. On your computer, open Google Chat or Gmail.
   • In Gmail: On the left, click Chat.
2. In the search bar, enter keywords or a query. For example:
   • "What was the deadline for project X?"
   • "Find messages from Alice about the Q3 review."
   • "Show me attachments from the design sprint space."
3. Click Search .
   • Or, you can press Enter.
4. At the top of your search results, review the AI Overview.

Tip: For the best AI Overview, provide as much detail as you can in your search description.

Expand or collapse an AI Overview

When you get a summary, you can expand or collapse the AI Overview.

• To get the full summary, click Show more.
• To collapse the overview, click Collapse .

Give feedback about an AI Overview in Google Chat

Google Workspace with Gemini is constantly learning and may not be able to support your request.

If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can let us know by submitting feedback. Your feedback can help improve AI-assisted Workspace features and broader Google efforts in AI.

Because feedback may be human readable, do not submit data that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information.

1. At the top right of the generated output, select Good summary or Bad summary .
2. In the pop-up window, you can select the data you want to share along with your feedback, with additional context and output. If you don’t want to share certain data, you can uncheck it.
   • If you select Bad summary : To select the issue and enter additional feedback, select Next.
3. Select Submit.

• Gemini feature suggestions don’t represent Google’s views, and should not be attributed to Google.
• Don’t rely on Gemini features as medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.
• Gemini features may suggest inaccurate or inappropriate information. Your feedback makes Gemini more helpful and safe.
• Enterprise end users can submit feedback about their experience using this feature. End users are informed before they submit feedback that the feedback data shouldn’t contain personal, sensitive, or confidential information.
