In addition to the main conversation in the space, you can reply to any message and create a separate thread. With a thread, you can track important discussions and prevent the main conversation from being cluttered.
Reply in a thread
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chat app or Gmail app .
- In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat .
- In the bottom navigation menu, tap Spaces select a space.
- Tap and hold a message Reply in thread.
- At the bottom, enter your message.
- Tap Send .
Tip: If a thread already has replies, tap the message to open the thread panel.
Follow a thread
- At the top right corner of the space, tap Active threads .
- In the thread panel, to the right of the thread, tap:
- Follow: Follow the thread.
- Following: Unfollow the thread.
- At the top of the thread panel, to filter the list of available threads, click:
- Mentions me: Threads where you’re mentioned.
- Following: Threads that you follow.
Manage thread notifications
After you start a thread, you can adjust how and when you’re notified of new messages.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chat app or Gmail app .
- In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat .
- At the top of the space, tap the space name Notifications.
- Select an option for notifications:
- All: Notifications for new messages and replies to threads you follow.
- Following: Notifications for replies and threads you follow and @mentions.
- None: No notifications. If someone @mentions you, a dot appears next to the space name.
- Optional: To prevent the conversation from being bolded and moved to the top of your conversation list, select the box next to "Mute conversation."
- Tap Save.
Tip: When you follow a thread in a space, you’re notified with a dot whenever there’s activity in that thread. You can view the number of unread messages next to each thread in a space.
