Manage placements

Tag defaults

Tag default properties determine what kinds of ad tags your placement generates and how they work. Click below to learn about settings you’ll see in the Tag Defaults section when opening a new or existing placement.

Tag types to generate

Choose which tag types your placement will generate. Your selections here are generated by default when you generate tags for this placement (click Tags in your campaign view to start generating tags).

When you first create a placement, you have to choose a site for it. By default, the tag types accepted by your placement's site are checked off here. You can uncheck these selections if you prefer to choose your tag types manually in your campaign.

Insert click-tracking strings in tags

Click this box to include the click= parameter in iframe and JavaScript Campaign Manager 360 placement tags.

This checkbox is unchecked by default. That means Campaign Manager 360 does not append click-tracking strings to tags unless you manually check this box in the placement properties. Do this for any placement where you want to append the click-tracking string to tags.

Guidelines

  • The click= parameter redirects clicks to a third-party site, typically so that the site publisher can perform its own click counting with a third-party tracker.

  • If you insert the click= parameter, the publisher should make sure that it's used in both the iframe and the JavaScript tags. The publisher also needs to redirect standard tags to the third-party site.

  • There may be discrepancies between the count in Campaign Manager 360 and those made by third parties. Campaign Manager 360 uses a variety of methodologies to ensure accurate counting of clicks; other parties may use different methodologies.

Additional key-values

Add key-values requested by your publisher here. They will be added to all tags generated for your placement.

Enter key-value pairs in key=value format and separate key-value pairs with a semicolon. Key-values cannot contain spaces, zero width spaces (Unicode character \u200B), or no-break spaces (Unicode character \u00A0). If you're using the ins tag, keys cannot contain semicolons or capital letters.

Please take care when using parameters in tags. The terms of your Google Marketing Platform contract prohibit passing any information to us that we could use or recognize as personally identifiable information (PII). If you enter certain values into a field in a Google Marketing Platform product, you may see a warning that reminds you that you must not use parameters to pass data that we would recognize as PII. Parameter friendly names that trigger this warning include, for example, email and username. Note that it is okay to use these friendly names if your purpose is not to collect information that Google Marketing Platform could use or recognize as PII. (For example, a custom variable with the friendly name email and the value weekly is fine, but passing a user’s email address is not.) If we see any cause for concern, we may contact you to confirm that you are not using parameters in a way that is prohibited.

Learn more about our best practices to avoid sending PII.

Keyword handling

Choose Insert placeholder to insert a keyword placeholder in your tags. Choose Ignore if you don't need a keyword placeholder.

A keyword placeholder is a spot in your tag where publishers can add keywords. These keywords show up in reporting data for that tag. Provide your publisher with a list of keywords to include in this placeholder, or add them yourself before you send the tag.

You can also choose to Generate a tag for each keyword if you need to use different tags for each keyword targeted by each ad. Campaign Manager 360 will automatically include each keyword you target in a separate tag, but no single tag will have more than one keyword. Learn more

Append a static landing page URL for tracking ads

Check this box to use a static landing page URL for any tracking ads a specific placement.
Static landing page URLs are hard-coded into your tags. Dynamic landing page URLs can be changed at anytime in Campaign Manager 360.
You can edit your tracking ad landing page URL,  in the edit field under Landing page URL suffix section of your ad properties.
