Create, copy, or archive placements

Use this guide to create, copy, or archive placements (and packages or roadblocks).

About: what are placements, packages, and roadblocks?

Placements

A placement is the part of a website where your ad appears.

Each placement corresponds to a single placement tag. This tag calls Campaign Manager 360 for an ad to load to the placement when users visit your publisher's site. You must create a placement for your ad in order to generate the placement tag.

Placements can have multiple ads. You can target different ads to load depending on criteria such as the location of the user's browser or the time the user visits.

Packages and roadblocks

Packages and roadblocks are ways to group placements. You create a package or roadblock and then add placements to it. These placements are all on the same site. They also take all their schedule and pricing information from the package or roadblock properties.

  • A package is a group of placements on the same site or app.

  • A roadblock is the same as a package, but it's intended to be a group of placements that all appear on the exact same page, not just the same site. Typically, the purpose of this is to ensure that only your ads serve to the page, not any other ads from other campaigns.

Reporting for packages and roadblocks is different from regular placements. Learn more

Create: steps to create placements, packages, or roadblocks

Choose this option if you want to create an entirely new placement. If your campaign already has a placement with some or all of the properties you want to use, just copy it using the steps below.

  1. In your campaign, click New > Placement. You can also copy placements that you already have in Campaign Manager 360.

  2. Choose a site for your placement. This site is where ads that serve to your placement will appear. See below if you need help finding your site.

  3. Set up your placement properties.

Note that you can also import or export placements with the campaign spreadsheet.

Extra setup steps for packages and roadblocks

    • If you're creating a package or roadblock, add placements to it in the "Identification" section.

      • Tip: If you're unable to save a package, you may have too many placements assigned to it. We recommend assigning approximately 1,000 placements to the package and then re-saving.

    • For roadblocks, you'll also need to choose a primary placement. All clicks on all ads in your placements will be attributed to the primary placement in your reports.

Adjust placements to meet a publisher's specifications

To adjust an existing placement to meet a publisher’s specifications (even if it is not trafficked under an publisher-specific site):

  1. Open the placement settings.
  2. Expand Video Transcode Settings.
  3. Turn on Control transcodes from the placement.
  4. Select the publisher from the dropdown.
  5. Click Save.
Copy: steps to copy placements, packages, or roadblocks
  1. Open your campaign.

  2. Select the checkboxes next to the items you want to copy. (You can also open your item and click Copy.)

  3. Your copies will be on the same site as the original, and have most of the same properties, including the same status.

    Two differences:

    • Copied placements have no ad or creative assignments.

    • Copied packages/roadblocks have no placements in them.

Archive: steps to archive placements, packages, or roadblocks

An archived placement, package, or roadblock is not shown in your campaign unless you set your filters to show All or Archived or it has active ads or creatives assigned to it.

Option A - Archive in your campaign view

  1. Open your campaign.

  2. Select the checkboxes next to the items that you want to archive, or select the checkbox at the top of the list to archive all.

  3. Click Status > Set as archived.

  4. If you ever need to unarchive your placement, select it and click Status > Set as active.

Make sure your filters show you all the placements you want to change. Select Active in the status column to see all placements that are active (or archived placements that have ads or creatives that are active). Select Archived to see all placements that are archived (and have ads or creatives that are archived). Placements cannot have an inactive status — only active or archived.

Option B - Archive in the placement properties (or package/roadblock properties)

Set the status to Active or Archive in the Identification section.

Option C - Archive with the campaign spreadsheet

Use the campaign spreadsheet to modify placements in batch, including changes to status.

I can't find the site I need

Follow these steps to figure out if your site is available. If needed, you can quickly add the site yourself in Campaign Manager 360!

  1. To start, Campaign Manager 360 shows you all the sites that are mapped to your Campaign Manager 360 campaign. Let's start here before we broaden our search:

Scroll through this site list. To narrow your results, enter the site URL or site name in the search box and hit enter.

  2. If you don't see your site, trying clicking All above your site list. This expands your site list to all the sites in your Campaign Manager 360 account. Or, try filtering by Site in the search bar at the top right and selecting one or all sites.

  3. Still no luck? Click Site Directory above your site list. This expands your list to the whole Site Directory.

The Site Directory is a comprehensive list of websites that accept display advertising. All the sites that appear in your campaign or account list are based on this directory. They stay synced with the Site Directory so that your account and campaigns always have accurate information.

  4. If you still can't find your site, it's time to add it to the Site Directory:

    1. Make sure you still have Site Directory selected above your site list.

    2. Click the following link beneath your site list: Click here to add it to the Site Directory.

    3. Enter the site URL and site name and click Add site.

Don't add your site unless you're certain it's not anywhere else in the Site Directory. Multiple entries for the same site can cause confusion.
