I've been having the same issue, but think I may have figured it out.  These steps are for a desktop browser.  It's probably possible to do the same thing through the mobile app, but I couldn't find the right settings there.

Try this:
  1. Open a desktop browser and log in to Google Calendar.
  2. Click the gear icon (top right of the screen for me) and open Settings
  3. Under "Settings for my calendars" choose your default calendar
  4. Scroll down to "General Notifications" and change the "New Events" dropdown to "email"
I think this General Notifications setting is what's missing.  Mine was set to "none" by default.

Is she sending it to your correct email address?
Check it and see.

I would suggest sending to to your gmail account.

I just tried to send my husband an invitation, did not receive it! I really wanted this feature the MOST, HE SCHEDULES MOST OF MY APPOINTMENTS!

This became an issue yesterday and today. At one point my events disappeared after refreshing. Today the invite never went through. I just ended up deleting it and adding the event again. It's troubling that it not a constant things so I have to always double check with my bosses to ensure that they got it. Is this possibly some bug or glitch. Hopefully Google fixes this ASAP.

This newer version of Google Calendar just does not cut it across many things it used to handle with ease....heck I do not even receive the pop up event notifications in my same Samsungg tablet. For me that was the crucial area of having a mobile calendar.

C'mon Google give us back the older Classic Google Calendar.....PLEASE

The calendar is syncing partially from an exchange account.
Some skype meeting invites are visible and some are not visible.

I am also having the same issues and it looks like it started not too long ago.  My husband sends me calendar invites to my Gmail email address  and they no longer appear in my email or on my calendar.  They are however showing up on my calendar ap (not Gmail ap) on my iphone.  I tried the fix where it say to open a desktop browser, log into Google calendar, click the gear icon, open settings, chose default calendar, scroll down to general notifications and change the new events dropdown to email but "email" was already selected.  This is very frustrating.  I'm a long time Gmail user (original beta tester) and am very disappointed in the calendar issue and the fact that no one is addressing it.  This is unacceptable.
