The google calendar mobile app only syncs back about 1 year. This is working as intended. If you need to see more on the phone, then use the mobile browser and go to calendar.google.com

If you use google.calendar.com>desktop you can search back several years. Just add it to your Favorites. I use an iPhone.

I have medical issues I need to reference often which date back more than one year, I need to look these up my doctors or keywords etc., I have the app on my iPhone, iPad, often I’m not at home when I need this information to “go to my computer” and look it up. I tried on mu iPad to search by using my calendar in the chrome browser and still doesn’t work. PLEASE FIX THIS FUNCTIONALITY. Please advise on other possibilities as work arounds when not home and near a computer.

It is not 2005.  Get the full functionality of google calendar working on the app.  To limit back search to only a year is absolutely ridiculous.  Many people use their calendar for medical information as stated by Christina K.  It is a requirement to have this information available to you on your phone.

BTW.  Please don't explain how to import / export a calendar.  Users shouldn't have to do any such double work.  This brings in the events, however search still does not work.  Google should be embarrassed that users should have this frustration.

Fix.

Quote from Riken79 above: As was previously mentioned, to much frustration, the mobile Google Calendar App now only syncs back around a year. However, the older events are still saved and viewable on the browser desktop version. An easy workaround for the mobile app is to:

1) Open Google Calendars on your desktop's browser
2) Export the calendar .ics
3) Import the same file back
4) And then refresh your mobile Google Calendar app

The mobile app should now display all of your old events.

I suck at file management, so it took me 2 hours to figure this out. This worked for me, but it's tricky if you don't know how to find the Import/Export tab in Google Calendar Settings. This setting is ONLY found on the desktop version of Google Calendar and all of the instructions below happen on your DESKTOP.  Additional difficulty is involved in creating the .ics file.  I didn't know what this type of file was...it's a calendar file format also called iCalendar, but it has nothing to do with Apple or iPhones.  .ics files work on all operating systems like Android and iOS.  So DO THE EXPORT FIRST. (this scared me at first, but all this does is make a COPY of your Google calendar INFORMATION (all your meetings, Dr. Appointments, etc.) in another part of your computer, namely a file). When you use the EXPORT tab in the Google Calendar Settings, Google creates a ZIP file that contains 2 files, one file is Contacts and the other file is Calendar.  At this point you need to save that Zip file in an easy to find place on your desktop Computer.  (I put my file directly on my "desktop", so it's right there on top of my screensaver).  KEEP IN MIND, IMPORTING AND EXPORTING THE CALENDAR FILE SIMPLY MEANS GOOGLE CALENDAR IS CREATING A DUPLICATE CALENDAR IN .ICS FORMAT ON YOUR DESKTOP...THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO TRANSPORT THIS .ICS FILE INTO YOUR PHONE.  I was very confused by this at first.  Now that you have an .ics file in a ZIP file,  you need to extract the .ics file from that ZIP file and save it in the exact same easy to find location you saved your ZIP file, so like on your "desktop" or anywhere you won't forget where you saved it. Now, go back to Google Calendar  Settings and click on IMPORT, where you will see the option to "select file from your computer" ( the reminder below the file bar says "you can import event information in iCal or CSV (MS Outlook) format"...this is the same as .ics. Find your .ics file (NOT your ZIP file) and hit IMPORT.

So here's the part that you now need to do on your mobile device within the GOOGLE Calendar APP....hit REFRESH in your Calendar APP.  I don't know what kind of witchcraft makes this process insert all my previously removed (by Google Company...arrghh!) meetings, events and DR. Appointments from 2017 all the way back to 2012 MIRACULOUSLY REAPPEAR in my GOOGLE CALENDAR APP.  All I know is my mobile calendar is restored after I tap REFRESH on my phone.  NOTE: It took a few refresh cycles to RESTORE all my events, but it WORKED.

I honestly don't know why Google has chosen to NOT keep our Google Calendar APP synchronized with the desktop version at all times, ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF OUR HISTORY WITH Google Calendar. I'm guessing it has to do with how resource-intensive synchronization must be.

Google calendar app only sync 1 year of data after factory reset whereas my data can still be accessible on desktop browser. Please remove that 1 year limitation! And let my older events appear on the app!

All my trips such as hotels and fights from Gmail are gone and not even found on browser! Data import by Gmail should be embedded into calendar permanently and not temporary!

Google why you..!!!!

This is the greatest sin you have committed!!

Google, it's 2019 and storage is getting cheaper every day. How about letting us decided now much storage we want to use on our phones by allowing us to adjust the cut off? How hard would that be for someone that knows how to program code?

...suffering thru same antiquated limitations.  Solution req'd Google.
**Update** - in investigating further, full calendar data appears in iphone back about 18 months, with only partial (very limited) data beyond that.  Further, search results only bring up data within last 3 months!
That is ridiculous, particularly since I'm paying for a GSuite business account.

I don't use Google Calendar to store my diary, I have it all on an exchange server in my home office, and use the Android Calendar app's in-built functionality to synch the data to my phone. In the past, all the data downloaded in this way was available for searching, now it's just the last 365 day's worth - even though the data is clearly on the phone (provided I know roughly where to look for it, and am prepared to scroll back that far - but that's a separate issue with the app, which seems to have no way to easily skip back to a particular year).
As the data is held by the calendar app on my phone, it should be searchable from within the app. I don't have the option of going online to find the data, as it is not in the cloud - and anyway, I may not have a good enough signal to go online at the time I need to find the info.
Please, Google, fix this issue!

Hard to believe you have to purchase an app to search as far back as you like. This has been the case for years. Some inventive person came up with an app called calendar companion. For Android only. It works flawlessly.

When I try to go to calendar.google.com on my iPhone to search for dates before 1 year... its just opens the Google Calendar app so i'm back to square one! How do I stop it opening the app??

"Working as intended"? That is totally insane. Why limit the events on a mobile device without any explanation or option to change things? How can this possibly be what anyone would think was an optimal user experience? It has no benefit at all to users to delete information without any notification.
