Problem with old experimental feature (weather)
1
Hello,

On the old google calendar design, there was a tab in the settings which had "experimental features". One of these features was an automatic weather option where every day the weather would be inputted for that day as an all-day event. I have had this for a few years and have been trying to find a way to remove this feature as it clutters up my calendar. Does anyone have any idea how to remove it? I have not found anything on the internet about it and it is not in my list of Calendars. I am also not sure what has access to my calendars to be able to input the weather information. Thank you in advance!

This calendar should still show under your "Other Calendars" list so you can remove it from there. If you are looking under Other Calendars and still not seeing it, please provide a screenshot showing the list of calendars and the weather being displayed.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. The calendar is not on the other calendars list. I have attached a screenshot of my google calendar showing the weather as an all-day event on each of the days. Every day this all-day event is added at 9 am. I also attached another screenshot of one of the weather events specifically.

Thanks again,
Evan Rothchild

It looks like the weather is on your personal calendar. The old weather calendar was it's own separate calendar. Is the weather actually correct? How far in the future does it go? It seems like it somehow got copied to your personal calendar but I'm not sure how that would happen

Hi Evan, are you syncing with Outlook or another 3rd party Calendar? I recently came across a similar case where Contacts birthdays were appearing in the primary calendar, and after much head-scratching it turned out that GSuite/Outlook sync was adding them.

Hello,

Thank you for your replies. The weather is actually correct for my home town but does not change with my location. It does not go into the future at all but every day at 9 am it is inserted as an all day event.

Also, I have synced with multiple 3rd party calendar apps but this was happening before then also. The only memory I have was turning this feature in the experimental features section of the old google calendar and now there is no way to access that tab.

Thank you again for the help!

I find it hard to believe this could somehow be left over from when before labs was disabled. When features such as this are removed from software, they are (usually...) disactivated completely behind the scenes, not simply hidden by removing access via the UI. If I were you, I'd first try changing password which should disable all syncing, and see if the problem persists. If it does, try exporting the calendar to an ics file, and search for the event with a text editor to see if that provides any clues.

Some people do still have the weather in Google Calendar from Google, but it shows as its own calendar under Other Calendars. (Edit: the person who used to have it under Other Calendars no longer does, he may have been thinking of when the new calendar first rolled out but it appears Google has turned that off) If it's showing on your personal calendar that's syncing from somewhere else.

Unfortunately the best suggestion I can give in that case is to check which apps have access to your account and remove them, see if the weather shows up the next day, and if not add the ones you use back one at a time. You can do this by going to https://myaccount.google.com/permissions?utm_source=google-account&utm_medium=web (My Account > Security > Third-party apps with account access)

After doing some digging in that menu, I found out that it was occurring due to IFTTT. Thank you all for your help!

Hi there! I am also having this issue, but on my Macbook Calendar app. I get a notification for the weather in my college town (from 5+ years ago) every single day. I can't find this Google Group under my Google Groups, I've been through Apple customer support who says they can't help me, and I am beginning to lose my mind. Can someone please help?

Julie, does this calendar show up at calendar.google.com? I'm not familiar with the Mac calendar app so can't really help with that unfortunately if that's the only place it's showing

It does not, unfortunately. But it's allegedly coming in through a Google group, so Apple is saying they can't help because it's feeding in from Google.

It looks like this is the calendar you're seeing. You can try to add it to your Google account at calendar.google.com and then remove it to see if that helps. You can also check this page to see if it shows there, this is how you choose which calendars sync to iOS so it's possible the Macbook calendar app uses this too.

I have this same issue! The weather is not correct, in fact it shows weather for Pforzheim (Germany). I have tried to delete it on my ical (this is the only place I actually see it listed as a calendar), but the very next day I still get alerts for Germany's weather (on my phone, on my watch). HOW do I remove this? I tried the option above to add the calendar by URL, but it says the "Import Failed it is not a valid URL".

What does IFTTT mean? (If this then that?)
Thank you!

Have you checked the sync select page to see if it shows there?

Yes, IFTTT is If This Then That, it's a website/app that lets you create tasks that are performed automatically when certain conditions are met (if this happens, then do that)

None of the suggested fixes have worked for me, unfortunately. I am still getting a popup, every single morning, about the weather for 02766.

Julie, can you share a screenshot of a weather "event"?

Relevant Answer
Sure! Please see the attached. It feeds in through the Calendar app on my Macbook, but it seems I can't delete it without unsubscribing from the Google group.

Unfortunately this is not an issue I am able to assist with because it's not coming in to your Apple calendar through the GCal account

Okay, but would someone be able to help me since it's clearly a Google group?

It's a Google group, but you're subscribed in iCalendar, so I would recommend checking with Apple/iCal support on how to remove subscribed calendars first

I did ask them, and becuase it's a Google group / Google calendar they sent me to you.

If the calendar is not showing at the sync select page (https://calendar.google.com/calendar/syncselect) then the only other thing I can think of is to remove your Google account from the calendar and readd it.

It's not showing up there, but I have already tried to remove the account and re-add. No luck.

Hi Julie,
As Tenley suggests, you can delete the subscription in Calendar on macOS by right clicking the calendar in the Calendar App and choosing '"delete":

I can confirm this is a Google issue. It's from an old lab experiment in Google Calendar that is somehow still around. If you search Google (your own search product!) you'll find several cases of this issue.

It may be an old lab, and possibly even a Google issue, but if you're not seeing it at calendar.google.com or the Google Calendar Sync Select page then it's not a Google Calendar issue. It seems like someone this old weather lab calendar got subscribed through the iCal program directly. Unfortunately we are only familiar with Google Calendar here
