How to stop MASS Calendar event SPAM! 0 Recommended Answers 110 Replies 338 Upvotes

So I can't really seem to find a real solution on how to get these mass calendar spam events from showing up ... It's gotten so bad I get at least one new spam event every single day if not two.

I have went onto my desktop computer and I've reported them as spam. I've made it so events aren't added from email... The only other thing is to disable events I haven't responded to from showing up. If I do that though when my mom adds an event to her calendar and shares it will me I won't see the event.

We share all of our appointments on each other's Google calendar so we never end up double booked, or so that we can both go to the same town and do what we have to on the same day instead of multiple trips.

So my guess as to why this is happening is because in one of the massive security breaches that have happened in recent years my email was leaked and now someone somewhere or maybe even a computer/bot is adding me to all these pornographic calendar events.

Does anyone have a way to really get rid of these that allows me to still be able to see when my mom adds something to the calendar?

*Google Suggestion*
I really wish Google would add in a feature that lets you say... Only show calendar even request from these emails, or these phone contacts, hide or decline any others that either aren't on the list or aren't in your contacts list on your phone.
*Google Suggestion*

It would make it so much easier, and eliminate this problem!

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Yes! Thank you.... Finally someone else is having the same issue... I know we are not the only two.... There has to be others that are getting these spam sex events added to their calendars everyday too???

So far Google hasn't commented, or done anything about it, let alone even acknowledging it... They just keep happily taking our money, while pretending that we aren't even there!

Wake up Google! Do something! I'm so sick and tired of these Spam SEX events being added to my calendar every single day.... Sometimes multiple times a day!

To make matters worse the only way to get rid of it since there is no report as spam button in the app.... I have to turn on my desktop go to the Google calendar desktop site, then I can click on the event and report it as spam. Super frustrating Google!!!

You need to do something about this already! Like allowing us to select which other email addresses can add us to calendar events. That way if someone else tries to add me, it either gets declined, or just never shows up because it's not one of the approved addresses that can add me to a calendar event.

any update? Started in my calendar also. What is the suggestion for cleaning?

update: Google Calendar: From a Web browser, click on the event in Calendar, but be careful not to reply to it, and not to click on any of the links within it. At the top, under the Going section, click “Report spam.” The event, along with all others from that organizer, will be removed from your Calendar.
To prevent more spam from showing up on your Google Calendar in the future, click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner, and go to Settings. Scroll down to Event Settings, and change Automatically Add Invitations to, “No, only show invitations to which I have responded.”

Here's another upvote with screenshot:
Ideally I want to be able to put the source (creator of the event) into blacklist. Like filters in Gmail.

I've also submitted several times phishing since they're asking for money transfers.

But so far I don't see reaction. I would continue submitting this issue until it's resolved.

I too get these on a regular basis, I've checked my calendar settings and as far as I can see, my calendar is not publically available for such "invitations".  Just annoying that these show in my emails, I dont actually use the calendar!

Has anybody find a solution for this?

The solution was posted above:

"Open Google Calendar's settings on a desktop browser and go to Event Settings > Automatically Add Invitations, and then select the option 'No, only show invitations to which I've responded.' Also, under View Options, make sure that 'Show declined events' is unchecked, so malicious events don't haunt you even after you decline them."

Then treat the invitations as you would any other Spam. You'll still get invitations from family, colleagues etc, but they won't show up until you do something in the email notification.

As the original poster pointed out, some kind of whitelist would be a great option for those who need to use the "Automatically Accept Invitations". This technique is being used for phishing scams to steal passwords, bank details etc. and made headlines recently with the advice being: disable this feature. Source: Mashable

same issue here. Unfortunately i could not find a solution for this.
The emails are going straight to Spam folder but the events are going into y calendar :(
It would be nice to have the option to opt out automatically from spam folder events.
If there is calendar invite from spam, just give us the option to ignore it automatically, without adding it to the calendar.

Maybe I've fixed this by adding a filter to gmail, since that's where the events are coming from.
"in:spam uitnodiging" since they all have the word "uitnodiging"
uitnodiging being the dutch word for invitation. And letting that filter automatically delete it.

Hoping that this will also delete it from calendar

@Gregory Kennedy

You may want to report this through the app.  If you use the "Send Feedback" option through the (?) icon on the website or the hamburger menu on mobile, it goes to Google engineers and not only on Google's user forums.  Here's a link to a post saying that about problems with Google Voice (but the point is the same, I think).

This isn't read by Google.  The info in 'Send Feedback' is.

Getting also mass russian spam.

IF (user has enabled automatic event adding)
IF (message has event invite)
{
IF (message is in inbox or labeled folder) add to calendar
(message is in spam folder) do not add to calendar
}
}

Would love some coordination between Gmail and Calendar teams to definetively solve this issue.

Same here. I'm getting RUSSIAN events and I can't even find the email from which they could have come from... Not to mention that I DO want to get events from emails (tickets, reservations, etc.) so I don't want to turn off that feature.
Oh and I can't report them as spam on mobile, only on desktop? What is this???

These forums always feel like a waste of time anyway. Usually no one responds. And the problem stays for years. Same here, same with Microsoft or Apple or Android or EA. And even to find these forums is usually just a hassle. Really annoying company practice. That's what you get when parts of the market are monopolized: they just don't care about their users anymore...

I started getting these kind of events, too, since a couple of weeks. It's really annoying.
Now I always report the emails as phishing (if they weren't flagged already) and the events as spam.
That seems to be the best thing one can do until this gets a proper solution.

A whitelist were it would only allow invites from my Google contacts would be nice.

Go to calendar Settings> Events from Gmail
Uncheck the choice "Automatically add events from Gmail to my calendar."
Granted you lose the feature  to auto add but it should stop events from Spam added to the calendar.

Obvious solution here, Google.  If an email for a calendar invite is marked as spam, the calendar event is probably spam too.  In the rare event that you make a false positive match, the user can take the time to recreate the event based on the email.

Me too, I found this has helped from https://the-parallax.com/2018/05/11/how-to-stop-calendar-spam/

In short

Google Calendar: From a Web browser, click on the event in Calendar, but be careful not to reply to it, and not to click on any of the links within it.

While I could disable automatically adding invitations and events, that's a useful feature most of the time.  A simpler solution would be google implementing that emails that go to SPAM do not send their events through to the calendar.

I am not sure at all, but one hypothesis is that something at google that has the ability to add invites to calendars is being hacked and used.

I've recently discovered the same issue. Allhough only happened twice until now.
During my search I stumbled upon this article:

I am aware that it might reduce functionality in some way. But for me I rarely to never receive meeting requests that require a response on my Gmail account, so I'm going to this a try to see if the random spam appointments stop.

Follow these steps and the events should be removed:

  1. Open Google Calendar in your browser on your desktop, as the first setting you’ll adjust isn’t accessible from the mobile version.
  2. Click the cog-shaped settings icon, then click Settings.
  3. Go to the “Event Settings” tab.
  4. Find the option “Automatically add invitations” and click the drop-down menu.
  5. Select “No, only show invitations to which I’ve responded.” This will prevent event invites you haven’t accepted or declined from showing up on your calendar(s).
  6. Next, go to the “View Options” tab
  7. Make sure the box next to “Show declined events” is unchecked. That will remove any declined event from your calendar.
  8. Finally, look for the “Events from Gmail” section, and uncheck “Automatically add events from Gmail to my calendar.”
After you’ve made these changes on the desktop version, you should double check that declined events won’t show up on mobile, too:
  1. Open the Google Calendar app
  2. Tap the “hamburger” icon to open the side menu
  3. Scroll down and tap “Settings”
  4. Tap “General”
  5. Disable the slider next to “Show declined events.”

This is still a problem after a year. It's pathetic. They literally don't care. Switch to another service, I've been using Fastmail. It also has a calendar, reminders, events, etc. It's also actually fast unlike Gmail which has turned into a bloated POS with a freaking loading screen.
