Drag and Drop isn't working at all anymore in the browser/web version 2 Recommended Answers 248 Replies 482 Upvotes

Drag and drop stopped working and that's a dealbreaker for me. I can't adjust the duration or move events to other days anymore. The arrow cursor just turns into a "no" symbol while I'm dragging, and when I drop it turns into a "move" symbol that doesn't actually move anything. Is there something I can do on my end? This has to be bothering other people besides me. I should add that the problem exists in both Chrome and Firefox. I feel like the problem has something to do with the little black "Event Saved" box that pops up. Is there a way to disable that popup to find out?

Hi there,

I just tried it, and it works for me. After dropping the event down (at a new time), the cursor turns shortly into a "No" symbol, while the changes are being saved. After being saved, the cursor changes back to the normal one, and the event is correctly moved to the new time.

Can you please try again? Also please verify that you have write permissions to the calendar you are trying to edit.

Hi, could you tell me what OS / Browser you are using? Do you have another browser that you can try this out on? For me, I don't need the extra "click" step in order to start the drag and drop.

I tested in Firefox and Chrome, with the same behavior in both.

Thanks, I'll reach out to the larger team to see if they can replicate this.

Yes, thank god.  I thought I was going crazy.  Having the same issue. Windows 7, Firefox.  I can no longer drag from the bottom of the event windows to lengthen or shorten duration.  You get the little black "no" circle symbol with the diagonal line running through it as you are holding down the left mouse button.  The actual event box does drag down and adjust, even as you let off the left mouse button it will still move but the "no" icon will be replaced with a four way arrow.  Then you click the left mouse again to try and set the event length but instead you end up creating a new event dialog box and the event you were trying to lengthen will just go back to where it was before.  Very frustrating.
One interesting caveat, if you refresh the window it will allow you to drag/lengthen any given event but that will only work like once or twice, then it starts messing up again.
I have tried to click once on the event (event info box pops up) and then adjust the time/duration as others have suggested but that does not seem to work either...

Help us out please google

On Firefox on Linux Ubuntu 18.10, moving the event works for me. However, changing the duration of the event does not work anymore.

Detailled description: When hovering the cursor over the bottom edge of the event until the double vertical arrow appears, clicking and holding the mouse button changes the cursor to a hand and a document symbol. The  bottom edge, however, does not move along with the mouse movement. Expected behaviour: the bottom edge should now follow the mouse movement.

Releasing the mouse causes the cursor to change to a hand, and now, the bottom edge moves along with the mouse movement. Expected behaviour:  the bottom edge is set to the position when mouse was released, and the action is finished.

Note that mouse button already was released. Clicking the mouse will stop the movement of the bottom edge, and will initiate the creation of a new event.

Clearly erroneous behaviour, persisting for at least a couple of weeks already.

We are having this issue across several computers, running different versions of Mac OS and Windows

Same issues in Chrome and Firefox

It started about 2 weeks ago, and happens every single time, it is not intermittent

Hopefully will be sorted by Google soon!

Having the same issue on Safari on Mac OS and it's driving me insane. Used Google Calendar for 10 years and going to have to migrate to something else I suppose.

This is infuriating! I can longer change the duration of an event by clicking and dragging the bottom edge of the event. Same problem everyone else is having. I'm using Firefox. The only way I can change duration is to open the event and manually change the time in the edit fields. Maddening! Google, please fix this.

I have found this issue as well, using Firefox (latest version) on Mac Mojave.

When I drag the bottom of an event to change the duration, it doesn't allow me to 'drop' it to save changes. When I try clicking to finish the action, it wants to create a new event. Highly frustrating.
It's been happening like this for about 2 weeks now.

It works as expected on Chrome, though.

They have apparently changed something because now you have to click and hold the mouse button down a second or two before being able to extend or shorten the event.  This is definitely something Google needs to fix although at least I know how to do it now. The recommended answer helped but it's not really accurate because you have to click anyway. I think they meant click for a while.

This is disastrous for Google, especially as my work calendar is my google calendar and I have plenty of entries. Not only has the the event drag and drop functionality been affected by whatever Google did, tasks which I rely on also have the same problem.

I click on and drag and as soon as I place it the whole column is highlighted and when I go to drag the next entry it opens a new entry.  Unless I refresh, I can't move anymore without the box prompting a new entry or task.

This is so bad to the point I want to leave Google Calendar because that says it's unreliable to me.

It's been happening since the end of March 2019 (about 2 weeks now).

Please google tech peeps fix this.  It's dire, and the basics of calendar functionality have been compromised.

Hi all,

Can anyone submit a short video showing the drag&drop not working? The team is asking for one, so they can see how this issue appears for you.

Thanks!

Here is a video. Tell me if this is not the most annoying thing you've ever seen for daily workflow:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mIh8aIo7fitI-ljgpc9t2lDHNIxo_IZ4/view?usp=sharing

Note I used a new test calendar with dummy data for privacy purposes—and the drag and drop actually worked a few times (maybe 20%), which is better performance than I get in my real calendar. Maybe more events makes it worse (my real calendar has dozens per week)? Or I just got lucky. It seems to alternate working / not working /working / not working on each drag.

Also note that it may look like I'm dragging, then moving my cursor, then dragging successfully again. Actually each motion in between successful events is an attempted drag, it's just that nothing happens.

Up until about 2 weeks ago, all the actions taken in this video would have moved or re-sized an event. It never used to matter if I e.g. worked quickly as in this video. Moving events is now painstaking and INFURIATING. It worked for TEN YEARS before this!

I've tried to respond, but everything I type says 'Content violates Community Policy', for what it's worth. I'm trying this last post (that actually does violate policy because it's completely off topic.) Otherwise, I give up. Using Outlook now...

Well now it has resolved itself, after searching/ Reading similar questions and wondering if I must take the time to check all my extensions, or other time-consuming measures.  Next time this happens, It would be great to have a place where I could check easily that it's not just a problem on my end. So that I don't waste my time looking for a solution that wouldn't work anyways.  dragging and dropping events works just fine now. Hope it lasts

The video that PPD posted is exactly what is happening to me, and probably to thousands if not tens of thousands others using Google Calendar.  This is a monumental problem if this is happening, because my work week is now fundamentally affected and I really cannot use this calendar anymore in its current state.

Why have the developers at Google not fixed this yet??  I thought this would be a major priority over just about anything else given Google is now the top administrative tool used in the world.

They should have teams of people working around the clock on this, not just one person manning a few posts which represent probably the entire world's inactivity on Google's most used screen.

Please do something !!  The administration of my business is being affected because of this.

Thanks!

Billions of users and billions of dollars at stake.  After solid operation for a slew of years and a passel of appointments in a series (and parallel) of personal and business calendars, I suddenly cannot drag-adjust appointment duration - and, sometimes, even drag-adjust an appointment time, using Firefox and Windows 7.  It looks just like PPD's video.

It was working as expected until a couple of weeks ago.  How about rolling us back to the early March version and addressing it in the sandbox?

EDIT: AAMOF, I can make it work:

As has been suggested, click-holding until the event color fades triggers the moment when dragging works. - at least, for my installation.  If this also works for others, it may be an actual feature.  I'll report back if the behavior changes.

I am also having this issue, specifically in Firefox. I usually use the two week view for my calendar. If I drag and drop an event from one day to another, it highlights the entire calendar as I'm moving the event. It is really annoying and I hope google fixes this bug soon.

Please would you advise what is happening with this issue.  Nothing has changed at all.  Is there a Google team working on this?  I'm so surprised that for the largest admin provider in the world, Google still has not addressed this tech issue.

This has been driving me nuts too!
I use Firefox by default, as of tonight 2019-04-18:
1) In FF - if you click and hold until the event's density becomes pale (about a second, but feels longer), then drag the lower edge and let go, it works, but slows you down a lot compared to previously.
2) On Chrome - it works without the click and hold, so is quicker

Apparently you have to update the Chrome browser,  to resolve the d&d problem.
