How to create time zone agnostic all-day calendar events? 0 Recommended Answers 4 Replies 0 Upvotes

With my organization having made the transition from Outlook to GMail, I'm struggling to figure out how to schedule an all-day event in a shared calendar in a manner that reflects it being just one day across multiple time zones - something I was able to easily do in Outlook.

The background - my team is split up over two separate time zones, Pacific & Central.  We have used a shared calendar to schedule one-off events (team meetings, training, appointments) as well as all-day activities (team member days off, all-day events, holidays, etc.).  In this transition, we've discovered the creation of an all-day event in Google Calendar reflects the time zone of the creator - showing either a 10pm the day early start, or 2am the day after end.  This has resulted in confusion when we quickly scan the calendar as we previously did in Outlook.

Is there any way to remedy this?

Hi Christopher, that isn't normal - is anyone still syncing that calendar with Outlook, or with any other 3rd party calendar providers? Are the events being created in official Google software? Can you provide some screenshots illustrating the problem?

Hi Neil - no one is still syncing in Outlook as far as I know, with all of us now using Google Calendar for web.  In the attached capture, you can see all-day events created by a colleague of mine who resides in the Central time zone are shown as a 10pm Pacific start for me.

We spent some time playing around with test entries and found every time we created an all-day event, it always reflected the time zone of the creator.  In Outlook, when we created an all-day event it would float as an all-day entry regardless of the creators time zone.

Hi Chris, all day events should indeed always appear on the same date, and without any time or timezone shown in the Edit screen. This works for me, but I see yours are still All Day events (displayed in top section) but with a time... Can you screenshot the edit window for the same event as seen in calendars at different timezones? Also, is this with GSuite or regular accounts? If GSuite, did you already contact support about this?

I only have access to my calendar and this shared one - I can see if one of my colleagues in Central can provide a screen capture to show what they see.  As far as contacting support, this is where it gets very fuzzy - I've reached out to our BT team within the organization who *think* it's working as it should.  Yet based on what I've read in the community here (and shared with them), is that something is askew.  Trying to scope out support beyond that is then out of my hands, so I'm trying to gather as much intel as I can to help empower my BT team here to figure things out.
