[Update] Removing local calendar spam events on Android
Known Issue
Hi all,
We understand that there has been an increase in spam events for Calendar users on Android devices. There are 2 types of spam events you may experience and can address:
- Local calendar spam
- To remove local calendar spam events:
- On the top left, tap Menu (three-line icon).
- In your list of calendars, uncheck calendars you did not create. You may need to tap “Show more” to view all your calendars.
- Some apps may insert spam events onto your calendar. To check which apps have permission to access your calendar data:
- Follow the instructions to Change app permissions on your Android phone.
- On a Pixel phone:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy > Permission Manager > Calendar.
- On a Pixel phone:
- Please note that changing which apps have permission to access your calendar data will not delete existing spam events.
- Follow the instructions to Change app permissions on your Android phone.
- To remove local calendar spam events:
- Spam event invitations
- This feature is currently rolling out across Android, Web, and iPhone/iPad and will become more widely available over the next 2 weeks. To help keep your Google Calendar free from spam, you can now select an option to display events on your calendar only if they come from a sender you know. To turn this on:
- Open the Google Calendar app.
- At the top left, tap Menu (three-line icon) > Settings.
- Tap General > Adding invitations > Add invitations to my calendar.
- Tap Only if the sender is known.
- You can learn more about the “Only if the sender is known” feature via the Google Workspace Calendar blog post and “Respond to event invitations” Calendar Help Center article.
- This feature is currently rolling out across Android, Web, and iPhone/iPad and will become more widely available over the next 2 weeks.
