[Update] Removing local calendar spam events on Android

Known Issue
Hi all,

We understand that there has been an increase in spam events for Calendar users on Android devices. There are 2 types of spam events you may experience and can address:

  • Local calendar spam
    • To remove local calendar spam events:
      1. On the top left, tap Menu (three-line icon).
      2. In your list of calendars, uncheck calendars you did not create. You may need to tap “Show more” to view all your calendars.
    • Some apps may insert spam events onto your calendar. To check which apps have permission to access your calendar data:
      1. Follow the instructions to Change app permissions on your Android phone.
        • On a Pixel phone:
          1. Open Settings.
          2. Tap Privacy > Permission Manager > Calendar.
      2. Please note that changing which apps have permission to access your calendar data will not delete existing spam events.

  • Spam event invitations
    • This feature is currently rolling out across Android, Web, and iPhone/iPad and will become more widely available over the next 2 weeks. To help keep your Google Calendar free from spam, you can now select an option to display events on your calendar only if they come from a sender you know. To turn this on:
      1. Open the Google Calendar app.
      2. At the top left, tap Menu (three-line icon) > Settings.
      3. Tap General > Adding invitations > Add invitations to my calendar.
      4. Tap Only if the sender is known.
    • You can learn more about the “Only if the sender is known” feature via the Google Workspace Calendar blog post and “Respond to event invitations” Calendar Help Center article.
