Another method you may find easier to add the Google calendar
app to your desk top:
1. Open Google Chrome.
2. If your Bookmarks bar is showing go to step 3. If your Bookmarks bar is not showing, press Ctrl+Shift+B
to open the Bookmarks bar.
3. In the Bookmarks bar, right click (dialogue box opens) and
click on “Show apps shortcut”. This will
place your Google apps short cut in the top left of your Bookmarks bar.
4. Click the Apps icon (in the Bookmarks bar) to open your Google
apps in Google Chrome.
5. Click the “Windowed Calendar” app. This will open the Google calendar app
outside of Google Chrome.
6. In the Windows task bar, find the Calendar App icon,
right click on it, then click Pin to taskbar.
7. Once you close the calendar all you need to do is click
the calendar icon in your task bar to open it again.

Please see the following steps from the Google Calendar Help Center
If your calendar application doesn't have a full sync option, or if you want a read-only view of one calendar, you can sync your calendar to the application using a link to ICAL.
- On your computer, open Google Calendar.
- In the top right, click Settings
Settings.
- Open the Calendars tab.
- Click the name of the calendar you want to use.
- In the "Private Address" section, click ICAL.
- Copy the ICAL link that appears in the window, or click the ICAL link to download an ICS file.
- Paste the link or upload the file as directed by your other calendar application.
Do share if you have further questions or in need of more assistance.

I was just trying this on inbuilt windows10 calendar,
and this silly OS asking me this permissions and want me to trust them,
I simply canceled it... Its better if google launch calendar app for Windows10.

with shortcuts, you will just have a new tab popping up in your favorite browser.
Use google Chrome --> Google Apps (9 dots in a square) --> you should see google gmail, google calendar etc. --> right click on desired google tool --> open in new window.
once opened in a new window, you should see it in your task bar with not the Chrome logo but with the Gmail letter or the calendar logo. right click again --> pin to taskbar.
there you go.
always a separate window.
best,
Ol'Herb
*PS: if you don't see gmail & calendar in your google chrome apps, you must first create a shortcut as described in earlier answers. after creating a shortcut to your desktop, the chosen google tool will appear in google apps on chrome browser.
