Combining my personal and work calendars
1
Hi everyone- thanks in advance for your help.

I use Google Calendar both for my personal events (free) and for work (where we have GSuite.)  Like many, I'd like to have a unified view when I'm at work.  I shared my personal calendar with my work email address, then subscribed to it, and this worked.  I can now see personal events, with details, when looking at my work calendar.

The challenge is working with others.

I'd like my personal appointments to show as busy (w no details) when colleagues view my work calendar, or when some utility searches my work calendar for open time.  I thought I'd done this, but a colleague told me they saw nothing but open space during a personal appointment.

Does anyone here know how to make this happen?  I looked at the Share settings in my personal calendar (screenshot attached).  Choosing "Make available to public" brings up a message saying calendar becomes Google searchable-- that's *too* public, even with details hidden!  Sharing with specific people doesn't seem practical-- not if I'd have to do this for every one of my coworkers.

Again, thanks for the help!

Priya, thank you very much for the reply and suggestions.

I will send my note to the product folks as suggested.  Your idea about inviting work Joe to personal Joe events is an elegant workaround, one I wouldn't have thought of!

I am curious though--  where do I mark the events private?   Personal calendar?  I do want work joe to be able to see details, even while my colleagues do not.

Thanks again!

Hi Joe,

Mark the events as 'private' on your personal calendar. All attendees (including work joe!) will be able to see the full event details but non attendees will just see that you're busy.

Alternatively you could just create a fake 'busy' event on your work calendar for the same time as your personal calendar, but if the time/date of the personal event changes you'll need to manually make the changes on your work calendar as well.
