How I do create repeat event on *last* Friday of every month? The 4th doesn't work when 5 Fridays 0 Recommended Answers 10 Replies 24 Upvotes

I want to create a repeating event on the last Friday of every month. Google Calendar only allows me to repeat on the 4th Friday of the month. This is something OK, but not in the three or four months every year when there are 5 Fridays in the month.

The best I could come up with is to edit the second time the event occurs.
In your case, if the first event is in February, edit the meeting that is in March to the last Friday of that month, then the option for last Friday of every month should appear. If not, then edit the next month.

  1. In the main Google Calendar view, click 'Create'
  2. Click the text box representing the start date (The datepicker pops up)
  3. Choose a month that has 5 Sundays (For example, August 2015)
  4. Pick the 5th Sunday in that month (For example, August 30, 2015)
  5. Click the 'Repeat...' checkbox (The repeat popup appears)
  6. Choose the following options
    • Repeats: Monthly
    • Repeat every: 1 months
    • Repeat by: day of the week
That's it! It should now say under summary: Monthly on the last Sunday, which I believe is what you wanted.

How to set a calendar event or reminder on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.

Use a 12 month repeat NOT a 1 year repeat.

+1 to FX Sniper for that workaround... @adam I think you misread the question.

Tuining into FX's answer: this fixed it for me. Now, I did try first with aCalendar on the phone itself. aCalendar has the option "Last Sunday of the month" and "Fourth Sunday of the month", in months where there are only four Sundays.
My first try, therefore, was to set it in aCalendar, but the appointment never showed up in aCalendar. Tried multiple times... and suddenly I had the entire Sunday filled with appointments in Google Calendar online.

Is this because aCalendar has this choice in a 4-Sunday Month ? It thus creates havoc in the Google Calendar ?

Hi Anita, it's a solution for a different question than the one asked in this thread!

Seems like a bug. The solution worked for me. Go to a month with five fridays or saturdays and schedule it in that month, then you're given the option for the last saturday or whatever of the month.

+1 on Christopher Zurcher comment.

Just for reference and clarification since many folks may land upon this for similar questions.  Christopher's workaround works for setting the Nth Weekday of a the Month.  Basically, you need to:

1) Go to a month that has 5 Five of any day.
2) Create a calendar event on that last day and modify the repeat.
3) Find and select where it states "Monthly on the last X" where X may be Monday, Tuesday, etc
4) Change the date to the actual date the you desire.
5) Notice that the Repeat will now state something like: "Monthly on the Third Wednesday"

This should work and hope this helps!

However, to reiterate to the powers that be, I too believe that this is a bug, specifically a design bug.  Please make this more intuitive!!
