Add reminders in Google Calendar

You can add reminders in Google Calendar. Reminders carry over to the next day until you mark them as done. For example, if you create a reminder to make a restaurant reservation, you'll see the reminder each day until you mark it as done.

Your reminders are private and can’t be shared with anyone else.

Create a reminder

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Click an empty slot in your calendar.
  3. In the box that pops up, click Reminder.
  4. Type your reminder, or choose a suggestion.
  5. Choose a date, time, and frequency.
  6. Click Create.

Note: If you've hidden your reminders calendar, or are showing the Tasks calendar instead, you won't see the option to create a reminder.

Troubleshoot reminders

Don’t see your reminder

Don't see reminders

You might not see a reminder because:

  • You deleted the reminder.
  • You snoozed the reminder until you reached a certain location. Once you’re there, you’ll see the reminder on today’s date in the all-day section.
  • You snoozed the reminder to "someday" in Inbox. If you want, you can edit the reminder to show on a specific date.
  • The reminders calendar isn't visible. To show the calendar, under "My calendars," click Reminders.
Didn’t get a notification for your reminder

You'll only get notifications for reminders that are scheduled for a specific time. If you created an all-day reminder, you won't get a notification for it.

Old reminders are showing in your calendar

If you created reminders that you didn't mark as done in Inbox, the Google app, or Keep, you'll see them in the "All day" section of your calendar.

To remove these old reminders so they don't carry over to the next day, mark each one as Done.

Switch between Tasks and Reminders

You can’t see the Tasks and Reminders calendars at the same time.

To switch between the two calendars:

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left side of the page, find the "My Calendars" section.
  3. To the right of "Reminders" or "Tasks", click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  4. Click Switch to Tasks or Switch to Reminders.
