Fix sync problems with the Google Calendar app

Important: To find your Google Calendar events in a different calendar application, like Apple Calendar or Outlook, the instructions for syncing are different:

Events that you create in Calendar appear across all devices where you're signed in. If you can't find your events in the Calendar app, review your settings.

Try these common fixes first

Important: The Calendar app only syncs past events up to one year. To find past events beyond a year, go to calendar.google.com.
Follow these steps on the device that you're using the Calendar app on.
1. Check your Internet connection
  • On your mobile device, check that data or Wi-Fi is on and you're not in aeroplane mode.
  • Open a browser app and try a web search.
2. Update the Calendar app
  • Make sure that you're using the Calendar app Calendar.
  • In your device's app store, update the Calendar app.
3. Check that the Calendar is visible
  1. On your phone or tablet, open the Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. To the left of the calendar's name, make sure that the box is ticked.
4. Make sure that new events are being added to your Google Calendar

If you add an event to a calendar that's not associated with your Google Account, it might not show up in the Calendar app or on calendar.google.com. When you create an event, check the account to which you add events.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the bottom right, tap Create Add.
  3. At the top of the event, check that the calendar that it's added to is associated with your Google Account.

Next, try these troubleshooting steps

If the steps above didn't work, read through these instructions on your computer while you try the steps on your mobile device.

Make sure that Calendar sync is turned on

Important:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Passwords, passkeys and autofill.
    • Alternatively, tap About phone and then Google Account.
  3. Select your Google Account.
  4. Tap Account sync.
  5. Make sure that account sync is on for 'Calendar'.
Confirm that the correct calendar is synced
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Select the calendar that doesn't appear.
    • If you can't find the calendar, tap Show more.
  4. At the top of the page, next to 'Sync', make sure that the setting is on.
    • You can only find the 'Sync' setting for calendars that you create, but not your primary calendar. Your primary calendar displays as 'Events' (unless you changed its name).

Important: It might take some time for your events to be shown after you turn on sync.

Manually sync your Calendar
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Refresh.
Make sure that Calendar storage is on
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps or Apps and notifications.
  3. To get the list of all apps, tap See all apps.
  4. At the top right, tap More and then Show system and then Calendar storage.
Check your device's storage
Calendar stops syncing if your device is running out of storage.

Important: When your device runs out of storage, the Calendar app stops syncing.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open your device's Settings app.
  2. Find the Storage section.
  3. If you need to clear space, try uninstalling apps that you don't use or deleting files or photos from your device.
Clear your Calendar app data

Important:

  • These steps may cause you to lose some unsynced data. Any event information that you can't find on Google Calendar on your computer will be lost. Only try these steps if nothing else works.
  • Settings can vary by phone. If the steps here don't match your device, contact your device manufacturer.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap the Apps and then See all apps.
  3. From the list of apps, tap Calendar.
  4. Tap Storage and cache and then Clear storage and then Delete.
  5. Restart your device.
