Add or remove birthdays, holidays, and other calendars

Birthdays and holidays are automatically added to your calendar so you never miss an opportunity to celebrate. You can also add other calendars, such as phases of the moon and sports team schedules.

Birthdays

Hide birthdays from your calendar

Turn off birthdays from one of your accounts

If you have multiple accounts, you can choose to hide birthdays associated with one of your accounts.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under “More,” tap Birthdays.
  4. Turn off Contacts for the account you want to hide.

Hide all birthdays

  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap Birthdays. Calendars with an empty box next to them are hidden.
Edit or remove individual birthdays

Birthdays come from details in your Google Contacts.

Tip: If the person is in your Google Contacts, you can edit or remove the person's birthday from the People or Contacts app on your phone, or from google.com/contacts.

Change the color of birthday events
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under "More," tap Birthdays.
  4. Choose a new color.
Add birthdays to your calendar

Add the person to Google Contacts and include their birthday.

Tip: If you want notifications about a birthday, create a recurring event.

Holidays

Add or change country and region holidays
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under "More," tap Holidays.
  4. Tap the name of the current country or region.
  5. To add a new country or region, tap it.

Optional: To remove a country or region, tap the box next to it to uncheck it.

Only show public holidays
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Tap Holidays.
  4. The country and region holidays appear.
  5. Next to the holiday calendar you're subscribed to, tap Public holidays only.
  6. At the bottom, tap OK.
Add religious holidays
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under "More," tap Holidays and then Add religious holidays.
  4. Choose which religious holiday calendars to add.
Hide holidays from your calendar
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap Holidays. Calendars with an empty box next to them are hidden.
Change the color of holiday events
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under "More," select Holidays.
  4. Choose a new color.

Lunar & alternate calendars

You can also add other kinds of calendars, like specific lunar or solar calendars.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Tap General and then Alternate calendars.
  4. Select your preferred calendar.

Tip: To remove an alternate calendar, in “Alternate calendars,” select No alternate calendar.
