Birthdays & holidays

Birthdays and holidays are already added to your calendar so you'll never miss an opportunity to celebrate. But if you don't want to see these events all the time, you can easily hide them.

Hide birthdays from your calendar

Turn off birthdays from Google+

  1. Open the Google Calendar app .
  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Choose Settings at the bottom.
  4. Touch Birthdays.
  5. Touch Google+ circles and contacts.
  6. Choose Contacts to see birthdays from Google Contacts but not Google+.

Turn off birthdays from one of your accounts

If you have multiple accounts, you can also choose to hide birthdays associated with one of your accounts.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app .
  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Choose Settings at the bottom.
  4. Touch Birthdays.
  5. Touch the section for the account you want to hide.
  6. Choose Do not include birthdays.

Hide all birthdays

  1. Open the Google Calendar app .
  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Touch Birthdays.

You can tell if birthdays are hidden if the square next to Birthdays is an outline, for example Birthdays.

Edit or remove individual birthdays

Birthdays come from details in your Google Contacts and from the profiles of people in your Google+ circles.

If the person is in your Google Contacts, you can edit or remove the person's birthday from the People or Contacts app on your phone (if your contacts are synced with Google), or from google.com/contacts.

If the person is in your Google+ circles, the birthday is controlled by the other person in Google+. If you need to, you can hide all birthdays from Google+ (see section above). Then you can add specific people's birthdays to your Google Contacts to see them in Calendar.

If you aren't sure whether a birthday comes from your contacts or Google+, you can go to google.com/contacts on a computer and open the contact details for that person.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app .

  3. Choose Settings at the bottom.
  4. Touch Birthdays.
  5. Choose a new color.

Holidays

Add or change national holidays
  1. Open the Google Calendar app .
  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Choose Settings at the bottom.
  4. Select Holidays.
  5. Touch the name of the current country.
  6. Touch a new country to add it, or touch the currently selected country to remove it.
Add religious holidays
  1. Open the Google Calendar app .
  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Choose Settings at the bottom.
  4. Select Holidays.
  5. Touch Add religious holidays.

You can quickly show and hide holidays from your calendar.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app .
  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Touch Holidays.

You can tell if holidays are hidden if the square next to Holidays is an outline, for example Holidays.

  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Choose Settings at the bottom.

Hide birthdays from your calendar

Turn off birthdays from Google+, iPhone Contacts and Facebook, or a single account

  1. Open the Google Calendar app .
  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Choose Settings at the bottom.
  4. Touch Birthdays.
    • To turn off Google+ birthdays, touch Google+ circles and contacts and choose Contacts.
    • To turn off iPhone Contacts and Facebook birthdays, switch off Contacts or Contacts & Facebook.
    • To turn off all birthdays for one of your accounts, touch the section for your account where it says "Google+ circles and contacts" or "Contacts," and choose None.

Hide all birthdays

  1. Open the Google Calendar app .
  2. In the top left, go to the main menu .
  3. Touch Birthdays.

You can tell if birthdays are hidden if the square next to Birthdays is an outline, for example Birthdays.

Edit or remove individual birthdays

Birthdays come from a few different places:

  • Google Contacts
  • Profiles of people in your Google+ circles
  • iPhone Contacts app
  • Facebook (if you've signed in to Facebook from the iPhone Settings app)

If the birthday comes from your Google or phone contacts, you can edit or remove the birthday yourself. Otherwise, birthdays are controlled by your Google+ or Facebook connections.

You can turn off all birthdays that come from Google+, iPhone, and Facebook if you need to. See the section above.

  3. Choose Settings at the bottom.
  4. Select Birthdays toward the bottom.
  5. Choose a new color.

Holidays

Turn off Google+ birthdays

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. In the top right, click the settings gear .
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Click Calendars at the top.
  5. Click Birthdays, and find the Show birthdays from section.
  6. Choose Contacts only to see birthdays from Google Contacts but not Google+.

Hide all birthdays

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, click Birthdays listed under "My calendars."

You can tell if your calendar is hidden if the square next to it is an outline, for example  Birthdays.

Hide birthdays from your calendar list

You can hide the Birthdays calendar so that it doesn't show up under "My calendars."

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, find  My calendars. You may need to click to expand it.
  3. Click the arrow next to Birthdays.

Edit or remove individual birthdays

Birthdays come from details in your Google Contacts and from the profiles of people in your Google+ circles.

If the person is in your Google Contacts, you can edit or remove the person's birthday at google.com/contacts.

If the person is in your Google+ circles, the birthday is controlled by the other person in Google+. If you need to, you can hide all birthdays from Google+ (see section above). If you want to see some birthdays from Google+ but not all of them, you can change which of your circles are part of "Your circles." Only birthdays in "Your circles" are shown in Calendar.

Holidays

Add or remove national or religious holidays
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, click the arrow next to Other calendars .
  3. Select Browse Interesting Calendars.
  4. Find a holiday calendar and click Subscribe to add or Unsubscribe to remove.
Hide all holidays
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, click the Holidays calendar listed under "Other calendars."

  3. Click the arrow next to the Holidays calendar.

More calendars

You can add other calendars like sports, day of the year, and phases of the moon.

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, click the arrow next to Other calendars .
  3. Select Browse Interesting Calendars.
  4. To add your favorite sports team, click Sports.
  5. Or click More to find one of these calendars:
    • Day of the Year
    • Hebrew Calendar
    • Phases of the Moon
    • Stardates
    • Sunrise and Sunset
    • Week Numbers
  6. Click Subscribe next to the calendar you want to add.

Once you subscribe, you'll see the calendar listed under "Other calendars" on the left side of Google Calendar.

For some calendars, you'll see events added to your calendar. For other calendars, you'll see a small icon in each day or week that you can click to see more details.
