To help remind you about upcoming events, you can get notifications on your phone, computer, or by email. You can change your notification settings for one event or multiple events.
Change your notification settings
You can get event notifications in:
- Emails.
- Desktop notifications that appear outside of your web browsers. Your calendar must be open.
- Alerts that appear inside your Google Calendar window.
Tip: Google Calendar emails notifications to people who don't use Google Calendar when events they’re invited to are created, updated, or deleted.
For all events
Important: You must open Google Calendar in an internet browser, like Google Chrome or Safari, to change notification settings. You might be asked to let calendar.google.com show notifications.
You can change notification preferences for all your events on Google Calendar.
- On your computer, open Google Calendar.
- In the top right, click Settings Settings.
- On the left, under “General,” click Notification settings.
- Under “Notification settings,” you can:
- Turn notifications on or off: Click the Notifications drop-down and select how you want to receive notifications.
- Adjust the timing of snoozed notifications: Turn on “Desktop notifications,” then click Show snoozed notifications and customize your timing.
- Only get notifications if you respond “Yes” or “Maybe” to an event: Click the box next to "Notify me only if I have responded Yes or Maybe."
Tip: Snoozed notifications only appear in a Google Chrome browser. If you have multiple notification alert times for the same event, Snooze will only appear on the last notification.
For single events
- Open Google Calendar.
- Click the event Edit event .
- Next to Notifications :
- To edit your notifications: Choose if you want to receive a notification or an email. You can change how often you want to get alerts in advance.
- To add another type of notification: Click Add notification.
- To remove a notification: Click Remove .
- At the top of the page, click Save.
Tip: You can choose to be notified by email, desktop alert, or both. Changes you make don't affect anyone else who's invited to the event.
For specific calendars
You can change notification preferences for specific calendars you own.
- Open Google Calendar.
- In the top right, click Settings Settings.
- On the left, under "Settings for my calendars," click the calendar you want to change Calendar settings.
- Under "Event notifications" and "All-day event notifications”:
- To edit your notifications: Choose if you want to receive a notification or an email. You can change how often you want to get alerts in advance.
- To add another type of notification: Click Add notification.
- To remove a notification: Click Remove notification .
"Browser doesn't support notifications" error
This error means that you need to update your browser to get event notifications.
Didn’t get a notification- Make sure you turn on notifications for your calendar. Follow the steps above.
- Check that you chose to show notifications in your browser’s permission settings. If not, turn on desktop notifications.
- Make sure Google Calendar remains open in your internet browser.
Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome.
- At the top right, click More Settings.
- Click Privacy and security Site Settings Notifications.
- Next to "Allow," click Add.
- Enter calendar.google.com Click Add.
All other browsers
Check your browser’s support site for specific instructions.
- Open your web browser.
- Go to your browser’s notification preferences.
- Add permissions for calendar.google.com.
Tip: If you delegate your calendar to someone else in your organization, you won't get a notification when that person changes an event on your calendar.
