Change your notification settings
You can edit your default notifications for both regular events and all-day events. You can also choose to be notified with device notifications, emails, or both.
Change your notification settings- Open the Google Calendar app
.
- In the top left, tap Menu
.
- At the bottom, tap Settings
.
- Select one of your calendars, like Events.
- To change or remove a notification, tap it or tap Add another notification.
Note: Your changes sync with your computer notifications. For example, if you chose "60 minutes before" on your phone, you'll get a pop-up notification on your computer 60 minutes before your event.
- Open the Google Calendar app

- In the top left, tap Menu
.
- At the bottom, tap Settings
.
- Tap General.
- Scroll to the "Notifications" section and make sure "Notify on this device" is turned on.
- Tap Calendar notifications
- Select your notification, tone, and vibrate settings.
To change the tone for your notifications, turn off Use standard tone or tap Sound and select a new one.
Change notifications for an individual event
You can change your notifications on either your mobile device or computer and your changes will sync.
- Open the Google Calendar app

- Open the event.
- Tap Edit
.
- Tap Add another notification.
- Choose the type or timing of the notification and tap Done.
- To delete the previous notification, tap Remove
.
- Tap Save.
Note: Your changes to notifications only apply to you. Other people invited to the event will get notifications based on their own settings.
Turn off notifications
Turn off all notificationsTo turn off all notifications for Google Calendar, you can change your default settings for your calendar. Since notifications sync between your mobile device and your computer, you can change your settings from either the app or a computer.
- Open the Google Calendar app

- In the top left, tap Menu
.
- At the bottom, tap Settings
.
- Choose one of your calendars, like Events.
- Tap a notification and choose No notification. Repeat for each notification.
- If you have multiple accounts or calendars, repeat these steps for each calendar.
If you turn off your mobile notifications, you'll still get notifications on your computer and by email.
- Open the Google Calendar app

- In the top left, tap Menu
.
- At the bottom, tap Settings
.
- Tap General.
- Turn "Notify on this device" off.
Turn off notifications for another calendar app
If you're getting duplicate notifications from a different calendar app on your device, follow these directions to turn off notifications for the other calendar app.
- Open the Google Calendar app
.
- In the top left, tap Menu
.
- At the bottom, tap Settings
.
- Select one of your calendars, like Events.
- Under "Default notifications," tap your current notification.
- Choose a time period for device notifications, or tap No notification.
Turn off notifications for another calendar app
If you're getting duplicate notifications from a different calendar app on your device, follow these directions to turn off notifications for the other calendar app.
Troubleshooting
Two notifications for the same eventYou might get more than one notification for the same event if you have other calendar apps installed on your device. Use the steps below to turn off notifications for the other app.
Directions for your device may be a bit different, but here’s the general idea:
- Open the Settings app on your phone or tablet.
- Find the Apps or Application manager section. You may need to scroll down or go to a different page in settings.
- Select the calendar app you don't want notifications for.
- Find the Notifications section and adjust your settings.
- Make sure notifications are turned on for your calendar using the directions on this page.
- Check that sync is working properly by going through the steps in the sync problems with the Google Calendar app page.
Note about flight events: By default, you won't get notifications for flight events that were added from Gmail.
