Delete or unsubscribe from a calendar

If you don't need a calendar anymore, you can permanently delete it or unsubscribe from it. If you think you might need the calendar later, you can hide it instead.

Options for removing calendars

Hide a calendar temporarily

This is a good option for calendars that you only check occasionally.

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, find the calendar you want to hide. It may be under "My calendars" or "Other calendars."
  3. Click the calendar to hide or show it.

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. In the top right, click Settings  Settings  and then Settings.
  3. In the left column, hover your mouse over the calendar you want to remove.
  4. Click Unsubscribe from... Remove.
Restore a calendar you unsubscribed from

Whether you'll be able to get back the calendar you unsubscribed from depends on whether the calendar is owned by or shared with someone else.

The calendar is owned by someone else

If the calendar you unsubscribed from belongs to someone else, you can ask them to share their calendar with you again.

The calendar is owned by you and was not shared

Unfortunately, you won't be able to restore the calendar you unsubscribed from. In the future, try removing the calendar from your list instead.

The calendar is owned by you and shared with someone else

If someone else still has access to the calendar you owned, you can ask them to find the Calendar Address. You can use that address to add the calendar back to your account.

Step 1: Ask the other person to follow these steps

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. In the top right, click Settings  Settings  and then Settings.
  3. In the left column, find the shared calendar you want to delete.
  4. Click the name of the calendar.
  5. Scroll down to the "Calendar Address" section, and click ICAL.
  6. Copy the link and send it to you.

Step 2: Follow these steps

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. In the top right, click Settings  Settings  and then Settings.
  3. On the left above "My calendars", click Add other calendars Add.
  4. Click From URL.
  5. Paste the Calendar Address link you received from the other person in the URL field.
  6. Click Add Calendar. You should see the calendar listed on the left side of Google Calendar.
Delete a calendar (can't be undone)

What happens when you delete a calendar

  • The calendar and all of its events are permanently deleted.
  • If the calendar is shared with other people, they also won't have access to the calendar and its events.

Note: You can't delete your primary (default) calendar, but you can clear its events.
