This page is about the official Google Calendar app for Android 4.0, an older version of Android. The Calendar app that came on your Android 4.0 phone might be a bit different depending on the type of phone you have. You can try using this page, or look for help from your phone manufacturer.

Find out if you're using Android 4.0

Directions for your device may be a bit different, but here's the general idea:

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Open the About phone/device/tablet section. It might be at the bottom of the page, or on a different page in Settings.
  3. The Android version section tells you which version you have.

If the number is 4.0, you're on the right page. But keep in mind that the calendar app that came on your device might be different so the exact steps may also be a bit different.

Create & edit events

Add an event to your calendar

You can use Calendar to create events that appear both on your phone and in Google Calendar on the web.

  1. Open the Calendar app.
  2. In any Calendar view, touch Menu > New event. Or, touch and hold a spot in Day or Week view.
  3. Add details about the event, such as the event name, location, and time, and invite people by entering their email addresses.
  4. Touch Done or the Back button when you’re done adding details.

The event will be added to your calendar, and the guests you've added will receive an email invitation.

Edit an event

You can edit an event that you created on the phone or on the web.

  1. Touch the event you want to edit, then touch the Edit icon .
  2. Make changes to the event.
  3. Touch Done or the Back button to save your changes and send updates to the attendees.
Delete an event

You can delete an event that you created on the phone or on the web. You can also delete events created by others if they have given you permission.

  1. Touch the event you want to delete, then touch the Trash icon .
  2. In the dialog that opens, touch OK.

View your day, week, or month

To change the way your calendar is displayed, touch the Day, Week, Month, or Agenda tabs at the upper left.

Day view

Day view displays a chart of the events of one day, in a table of one-hour rows. A black line indicates the current time. All-day and multiday events are displayed at the top.

  • Touch the Day tab at the upper left.
  • Pinch two fingers together to zoom out, or spread them apart to zoom in.
  • Swipe left or right to view previous or future days.
  • Touch an event to view its details.
Week view

Week view displays a chart of the events of one week. A black line indicates the current time. All-day and multiday events are displayed at the top.

  • Touch the Week tab at the upper left.
  • Pinch two fingers together to zoom out, or spread them apart to zoom in.
  • Swipe left or right to view previous or future weeks.
  • Touch an event to view its details.
Month view

Month view displays a chart of the events of one month. All-day events appear as a horizontal bar along the top of the day.

  • Touch the Month tab at the upper left.
  • Swipe up or down to view previous or future months.
  • Touch a day to view its events.
Agenda view

Agenda view is a list of your events in chronological order. All-day and multiday events are listed at the start of each day. Days without events are not shown. A black line indicates where today begins.

  • Touch the Agenda tab at the upper left.
  • Swipe up or down to view previous or future events.
  • Touch an event to view its details.

Settings

General settings
  1. Open the Calendar app.
  2. Touch menu.
    It could be an icon Move to, or a button on your phone.
  3. Choose Settings, then General settings.

Learn more about each setting:

  • Hide declined events — Check if you don't want to see events you said you aren’t going to.
  • Show week number — Check to see the week number in Week view.
  • Week starts on — Choose among Saturday, Sunday, Monday, or locale default.
  • Use home time zone — Check to use your home time zone when viewing calendars and event information in Calendar when you’re traveling, rather than the local time zone reported by the mobile network you’re connected to.
  • Home time zone — Touch to choose your primary time zone.
  • Clear search history — Clear your search history in Calendar.  
  • Notifications — Check to receive notifications at the top of your screen.
  • Choose ringtone — Touch to select a ringtone for your notifications.
  • Pop-up notification — Check to receive a notification that will appear on your device's main screen during use.
  • Default reminder time — Select the time frame to receive event reminders.
  • Quick responses — Edit default responses that you can use for quickly emailing guests.
Choose which calendars to display or sync

If you have multiple calendars, you can choose whether or not to sync each one on your device. You can also choose whether to hide or display each calendar.

If you have a calendar that shows up in Google Calendar on your computer, but isn't showing up in the mobile app, turn on sync for that calendar.

  1. Open the Calendar app.
  2. Touch menu.
    It could be an icon Move to, or a button on your phone.
  3. Choose Calendars to display. You'll see a list of calendars that are currently synced with your phone.
  4. To hide a calendar's events, uncheck the box next to it. To show a calendar, check the box. If you don't see a calendar listed, turn on sync for that calendar.
  5. To choose which calendars are synced, touch Calendars to sync.
  6. To sync a calendar, check the box next to it.
  7. When you're done, touch OK.

Note: It may take some time for your events to show up.
