Add or remove holidays on your calendar

Holidays are automatically added to your calendar. You can update your calendar settings to:

  • Show public holidays and other observances, public holidays only, or selected holidays.
  • Add or remove holidays from other countries or regions.
  • Add or remove religious holidays.
  • Hide or unhide individual holidays.
  • Change the color of holiday events.

To show the holidays most important to you, you can customize your calendar.

Tips:

  • Calendar shows public holidays and national observances using information from a third-party company that specializes in this data. This information is regularly updated and available for every country where Calendar can be used.
  • To add specific holidays, you can subscribe to third-party holiday calendars published on the web.

Select holidays to show on your calendar

Important: You can’t edit the details of individual holidays on your calendar.

Public holidays and other observances appear on your calendar by default. To show public holidays only:

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. At the top right, click Settings and then Settings.
  3. On the left panel, click Add calendar and then Browse calendars of interest.
  4. Under "Regional holidays," find the holiday calendars you're subscribed to.
  5. Next to your preferred holiday calendar, click the drop-down.
  6. To change your preferred holidays, select the holidays you want to show on your calendar:
    • Public holidays
    • Other observances

Change holiday settings

Add or remove country and region holidays

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. At the top right, click Settings and then Settings.
  3. On the left panel, click Add calendar and then Browse calendars of interest.
  4. Under “Regional holidays,” click Browse all.
  5. To add or remove a calendar, check the box next to it.

Add or remove religious holidays

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. At the top right, click Settings and then Settings.
  3. On the left panel, click Add calendar and then Browse calendars of interest.
  4. To add or remove a religious holiday, under “Global religious holidays,” check or uncheck the box next to it.

Tip: To preview religious holidays, click Preview .

Hide all holidays from your calendar

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, under "Other calendars," uncheck Holidays.

Tip: Calendars with an empty box are already hidden from your calendar.

Hide individual holidays from your calendar

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. Select a holiday.
  3. Click Trash Delete event and then Hide this holiday.

Unhide individual holidays from your calendar

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. At the top right, click Settings and then Settings.
  3. On the left panel, click Add calendar and then Browse calendars of interest.
  4. Next to your preferred holiday calendar, click Expand Down arrow.
  5. Select specific holidays and observances you want to show on your calendar.

Subscribe to holiday calendars published on the web

You can use a link to add many third-party holiday calendars published on the web to Google Calendar.

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, next to "Other calendars," click Add other calendars Add other calendars and then From URL.
  3. Enter the URL of the published calendar.
  4. Click Add calendar.
    • The calendar displays on the left, under "Other calendars."

Change the color of holiday events

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, find the holiday calendar.
  3. Click Options More.
  4. Select a new color.

Tips:

  • The color applies to all holiday events on your calendar.
  • You can’t individually change the color of holiday events.
