View Insights for your business listing
Insights give you an inside look at how people find your business listing on the web. Because many customers find businesses on Google Search and Maps, Insights focus on how customers use Search and Maps to find your listing, and what they do once they find it.
- Sign in to Google My Business.
- Make sure you’re using card view . If you’re viewing your locations as a list instead of cards, switch to card view by clicking the cards icon on the right side above your pages.
- If you manage more than one location in your account, click the location whose Insights you want to view.
- Click Insights from the menu.
- Open the Google My Business app.
- Tap the menu icon > Insights.
You’ll also see a summary of your listing’s Insights from your Google My Business dashboard.
Insights consists of six sections, each of which gives you a different way to understand how customers interact with your listing:
- How customers find your listing
- Where customers find you on Google
- Customer actions
- Driving directions requests
- Phone calls
This section shows how many customers found you in a “Direct” search (they searched for your business name or address) versus a “Discovery” search (they searched for a category, product, or service that you offer, and your listing appeared). For example, if you manage an Italian restaurant called “Italy’s Best”, a customer might find you via a Direct search by searching for “Italy’s Best restaurant” on Google Maps. The same customer might find you via a Discovery search by searching for “Italian dinner nearby” on Google Search. Click or tap the chart to see the percentage of all customers that found you via each method.
This section shows how many customers found you via Google Search or Google Maps. Beside “Listing on Search” and “Listing on Maps”, you’ll see the number of views your listing received from each product in the timeframe you’ve selected. To see how many people found you on a particular product on a particular day, place your cursor over the appropriate segment of the graph on the day you’re interested in.
Click the check boxes to the right of the graph to turn off segments so you can isolate particular data points that you’re interested in. For example, you might want to look only at how discovery via Google Maps changed over time. To do so, click the box beside “Listing on Search” to temporarily remove the Search segment from the graph and only look at referrals from Maps.
This section shows what customers did once they found your listing on Google. “Total actions” gives the total of the following types of actions that customers took on your listing:
- Visit your website
- Request directions
- Call you
- View photos
To see how many people took a particular action on a particular day, place your cursor over the appropriate segment of the graph on the day you’re interested in. Click the check boxes to the right of the graph to turn off segments, so you can isolate particular data points that you’re interested in.
This section shows where on the map people request driving directions to your business. You’ll see your location pinned on the map, and a heat map that shows the most popular places from which people ask Google Maps for driving directions to your address. You may also see the total number of requests broken down by city or neighborhood.
On the map, you can toggle between the Map and Satellite views, and zoom in and out on the map using the + and - icons on the bottom-right corner.
This section shows when and how often customers called your business via your listing on Google. At the top of the section, “Total calls” gives the total number of phone calls in the timeframe you’ve selected.
In the graph, you can choose to view trends in customer phone calls by either “Day of week” or “Time of day”. The graph will show when customers are most likely to call your business after viewing your business listing on Google.
You can adjust the timeframe for the data in any of the sections. In the top right corner of the each section, you’ll see “Last 30 days” if you haven’t selected a different option. To change the timeframe, click or tap “Last 30 days”, then select from the other two options: “Last 7 days” and “Last 90 days”.
This section shows the number of photos associated with your listing and how often they’re viewed compared to photos of businesses similar to yours. The “Photo views” graph shows the number of times your photos have been viewed by Google users, and the “Photo quantity” graph shows the number of photos uploaded by you.
The dropdown menu in the top left corner lets you adjust the timeframe and see data from the last 7, 30, or 90 days. Hovering over a specific day on the graph shows you data for that day only.
The lines on the graphs compare your photo data with photo data for businesses similar to yours. For example, if you manage a restaurant, your business would be compared to other restaurants in your area. You may not see this information if there aren’t enough businesses like yours nearby. On the right side of the graph you’ll see the total number of photos based on the data points you’ve selected.
