Trusted Verifier FAQs

About the Trusted Verifier app

I received an invitation to the Trusted Verifier Google Group, but I can’t download the app. What’s wrong?

The Trusted Verifier app is only accessible to approved members of the program. On Android devices, the Play Store allows you to pick the active user. The Trusted Verifier app is only visible in the Play Store if your active Play Store user is the same email address you used to sign up as a Trusted Verifier. Make sure that you're downloading the app from the Google Play Store using the same Google Account you provided to join the Trusted Verifier program.

If you see the below screen, it means you’re signed in to Chrome with more than one account.

To fix the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Sign out by moving the toggle to the left.
  2. Download the app again.
  3. Select the correct Trusted Verifier Google Account.
Can I verify a business with Trusted Verifier from inside the Google My Business app?
No. The Google My Business app doesn't support the "In person" option or use of the Trusted Verifier program. The business owner or manager needs to sign up for Google My Business in a mobile web browser.
How do I know when a new version or feature launches in the app?
We’ll keep you informed of new features and releases of the app. You can also set up Google Play to notify you of updates to available apps, including Trusted Verifier.

About the verification process

I’m not sure if I can verify a business by following the Trusted Verifier policies. What should I do?
If the business doesn’t follow our policies and requirements with the Trusted Verifier app, do not verify the business. However, you can suggest that the business owner try a different verification method, like mail verification.
I’m verifying at an event and the participant has no proof documents, but I personally know them and their business. Can I still verify them with the Trusted Verifier app?
No. Businesses without the required documents cannot be verified through the Trusted Verifier app.
I’m in the verification screen, but I can’t see the “In person” option.

On Android or the Chrome browser on iOS, double-tap the How would you like to receive your verification code? link.

On iOS (not using the Chrome browser), touch and hold on the screen with 2 fingers at the start of the sign-up flow. You see a message stating "Trusted Verifier mode enabled." The "In person" option appears when you reach the verification screen.

You can also add “&tv=d” to the end of the URL in your browser. For example: https://business.google.com/u/0/b/116808359082973227110/add/select/l/02654062685045342567?hl=en&service=plus&_ga=1.175725538.1793291408.1440999161&tv=d

When I scan the QR code, I'm asked to download the Barcode Scan app. Is this expected?
Yes. If your phone doesn't have the Barcode Scan app installed, you cannot scan the Trusted Verifier QR code. Download the app, then proceed with the verification process.
How long does it take from the moment the verification is done until the business shows on Maps?
In general, it shouldn’t take longer than one hour for the business to appear in Maps results. However, it can take longer in cases when we need to check that the business complies with our guidelines. Business listings should instantly appear as verified. If the business doesn’t appear after a few days, the business owner can alert our support team by clicking the Contact us button in the Google My Business Help Center.
I see an error when uploading a verification.

My internet connection is poor. Can I still use the app? Will verification work?

Yes, you can still scan the QR code even if your mobile device isn’t connected to your regular mobile network, broadband, or Wi-Fi. The listing shows the clock icon  to indicate that an upload is in progress.

When your connection to the internet is restored, the verification upload automatically resumes. You can also refresh the screen at any time by swiping down.

How do I know when a new version or feature launches in the app?
We’ll keep you informed of new features and releases of the app. You can also set up Google Play to notify you of updates to available apps, including Trusted Verifier.
I know more partners interested in using the app. How can they get started?
Put them in touch with the Google contact who invited you to become a Trusted Verifier. Your Google contact can  assess the partner’s eligibility to join.
