Types of edits

Here are some details and tips for the kind of info you can add or edit on your Business Profile.

Business name
Enter your business name exactly as it appears on your real world business signage, stationery, and other branding. If you change your business name after it’s verified, you might need to verify your business again. Learn more about Business Profile quality guidelines.
Category

Select the category that best matches what your business does. All locations of a business must share a “Primary category.” Choose a specific category that represents your main business. If you select several categories, the category in the first field will be your primary category. Learn more about how to manage your business category.

You can select up to 9 more categories. If you have trouble choosing a category for your business, choose one that’s general.

Tips:

  • Do not use categories solely as keywords or to describe features of your business.
  • Do not use categories that match other nearby or related businesses.
    Example:
    • A business that’s located inside your business’s physical location
    • Another business that your business is located inside.
Address and pin location

Enter the full and accurate address of your business location. Learn more about address entry guidelines.

Service area

If your business serves customers within a specific local area, enter your service area. When you list your service area, this helps people know if you can visit or deliver to their location.

You can set your service area based on the cities, zip codes, or other places you serve. Learn about how to set your service area.

Tip: Do not add countries or states as a service area.

Hours
Phone number

In addition to your primary business phone number, you can enter up to 2 more phone numbers. They can be mobile numbers or landline, but not fax.

Tip: You can choose to hide your phone number on your Business Profile.

Hide your Business Profile phone number

Attributes

Attributes tell customers more about your business. For example: "Wi-Fi” or "Has outdoor seating." You can edit certain factual attributes, like outdoor seating. Subjective attributes, like whether your business is popular with locals, rely on the opinions of Google users who have visited your business.

Photos & videos

To help make your Business Profile more attractive to customers, you can add photos or videos of your storefront, products, and services. When you add an exterior photo, it helps customers recognize your business when they visit. Learn how to manage photos or videos for your Business Profile.

Business description

Enter a brief description of your business that shows in the “From the business” section of your Business Profile.

Info to include in your description:

  • What you offer
  • What makes you special
  • How long you’ve been in business
  • Anything else that's helpful for customers to know

Things to avoid in your description:

  • Do not include URLs or HTML code.
  • Do not exceed 750 characters in the description field.

Focus primarily on details about your business instead of details about promotions, prices, or sales. Learn more about guidelines for representing your business on Google.

Example: "We're an independent ice cream shop located steps from the center of town. We’re proud to be the favorite for locals to meet friends for a cone or call for a fresh pizza, delivered straight to their home. We serve 35 flavors of homemade, hand-churned ice creams and sorbets year-round. The pizza oven turns out New York-style pies every day from midday until close. Come visit us today!"

Tip: You can have AI help you create your business description. This feature is currently available for select regions and languages. Learn how to create an AI-powered business description.

Opening date

Add an opening date to your Business Profile to let customers know when your business first opened. Learn how to add a business opening date.

To determine how long a business has been in operation, Google uses various sources. On certain places in Google Search, the opening date might be used to let customers know how many years a business has been in operation. If the merchant believes there’s an error, they can set the correct opening date.

Tip: You only need to write the month and year of your opening date. You can enter a date up to one year in the future, but it won't show up on Google until 90 days before the date.

Menu or services (limited availability)

Use the menu and services editor to keep your menu items or services, along with their prices, accurate.

Learn more about the menu editor or the services editor.

Tip: The menu editor is for food and drink businesses only.

Products (limited availability)

If you have a retail business in an eligible country (US, CA, UK, and IE), you can turn online searchers into in-store shoppers by automatically showcasing your in-store products on your Business Profile.

To add your products to your Business Profile, you need to connect your store’s Point of Sale system to the Local Inventory app. Learn how to showcase in-store products.

Check-in and check-out times (hotels only)

Hotels can add their check in and check out times to their Business Profile. This helps customers know when their rooms are ready and when they have to leave.

To ensure that hotel info is accurate, Google also gets check-in and check-out info from a variety of trusted sources, like user reports and licensed content. You can choose whether you want to accept these updates automatically.

Hotel information (hotels only)
Important: This feature is only available on a computer.
If you own a hotel and have verified your Business Profile, you can edit your services and amenities your hotel has in the “Hotel attributes” section in your Business Profile Manager.
Car dealership inventory (limited availability)

In a new feature pilot, Google displays available sales inventory on dealership Business Profiles. Customers can search, sort, and learn about your cars, which might make customers come to your dealership. If you're a car dealer, or work with car dealers, and want to try this feature, fill out the interest form.

Partners who sign up for the pilot can manage this functionality on Google Search. To update sales inventory, select Edit Profile and then Cars for Sale. You can choose if you want to show the cars for sale and select preferred data providers.

Q&A
Important:
  • The Q&A feature is available only for select business categories and regions.
  • As we continue to enhance this feature, its appearance and functionality might change.

Customers can ask and answer questions about places or businesses they find on Google. Business owners and others that manage the Business Profile can also ask or answer Q&As about their business. They can do this on Google Search and Maps on any device. Learn how to ask and answer questions about a place on Google Maps.
