For the best experience while you drive, sign in to your personal Google Account and connect your car to the internet with a mobile data plan. When you sign in with your Google Account, you can set up Assistant, download apps, and navigate to personal locations like “Home” and “Work.” You can still drive the car and use some Google apps if you’re offline or signed out but some apps and features might not be available.
Make sure you sign in with your personal Google Account. These steps won’t work if you use an account through your work, school, or other organization. If you don’t have a Google Account, you can create one on a separate device.

Set up your infotainment system
You need a car with Google apps and services built in. Learn which cars are compatible.
Important: For your safety, your car must be in park to perform setup.
- Start your car.
- Make sure you’re online.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to:
- Set up your driver profile
- Select your language.
- Sign in to your personal Google Account.
- Accept terms and conditions.
- Set up your Google Assistant.
- Download apps from the Play Store.
Tip: If you don’t complete the setup the first time, a notification periodically appears as a reminder to complete the setup. Tap Finish setting up your profile in the notification to proceed.
Set up your car’s Assistant
With Assistant built into your car, you can navigate, make calls, control vehicle temperature, and play music without your phone.
To use Assistant in your car, make sure you are signed in to your Google Assistant. Some features may require you to connect your phone with Bluetooth, enable notifications, and have a mobile data plan for your car.

Connect your phone with Bluetooth
- Tap the car display home screen.
- Go to your apps.
- Tap Settings

Pair new device.
- Follow the instructions on your phone and car display.
- When asked to “Allow Assistant to temporarily upload contacts from this Bluetooth Device,” tap Yes.
Enable notifications
You will be asked to enable notifications when you set up your infotainment screen with an Android device. If you are having trouble receiving notifications on your infotainment screen after initial set up, try the following steps:
1. On your car’s infotainment screen, navigate to Settings
2. Tap Apps and notifications Special app access
