You can talk to Google to control Google apps and services built into your car.
Important: Settings and functionality may vary by car manufacturer, region, and data plan. For more info, reference your owner’s manual.
What you need
Before you use these features in your car, make sure you have the following:
- A compatible car with Google apps and services built in.
- Set up Google Assistant in your car.
Note: For some Google apps and services or third-party apps, you may need a mobile data plan for your car. Certain features may also require you to pair your phone with your car via Bluetooth and enable notifications.
Get started
Follow these steps to talk to Google:
- Choose one of three ways to start:
- Say “Hey Google.”
- Tap the microphone

- Press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel.
- Wait until you hear the beep.
- Say what you’d like to do.
Important: Apps must support integration with Google Assistant in order to use voice commands. For more information, contact the app developer.
