If you wish to remove a book's preview from Google Books:

If you wish to delete a book from your account, you can deactivate it in the Partner Center.

  1. Visit your Book Catalog.
  2. Click the title of the book that you wish to remove from preview.
  3. Click the status button near the upper right (next to the Save button). It may be labeled as Live on Google Books or Needs Action.
  4. Select Deactivate completely to remove the book from Google Books. (You cannot choose to remove the book from Google Books while keeping it available for sale on Google Play.)

To remove a large number of books from preview, please contact us. Our support team can also assist you in closing your account in case you wish to remove all of your books.

Deactivated books will no longer be listed in your Book Catalog, but you'll be able to search for them if you wish to change their settings in the future. Basic information about your book will continue to display on Google Books, but users won't be able to view any of the contents.

If you wish to remove an old version of a book:

When you submit an updated book file, the new file will replace the old file once the new file is successfully processed.

  • Use the same filename if possible, to help our system recognize that the file is an update for an existing book, and not a file for an entirely new book.
  • Submitting an updated version works for both cover files and content files.
  • Older versions will continue to be listed on the book's Content files page as historical information.

Remove a book that you didn't submit

If you see a book on Google Play or Google Books that you hold the rights to but didn't submit, please follow the appropriate procedure for removal depending on how much of the book is available for preview. You can search for the book on Google Books to check how it appears. (The visibility of the book indicates the method by which it was added to Google Books.)

If you wish to remove a book that is for sale on Google Play or that has whole pages visible on Google Books:

Please contact the party responsible for the book (you can see on the Google Books preview page who granted Google permission to display pages) or report this content for removal.

If you wish to remove a book with partial pages (snippets) visible on Google Books:

Books displayed in snippet view are available through the efforts of the Library Project, through which we partner with libraries to digitize their collections. These books are searchable, but Google Books only displays a few sentences of context around the search term, rather than any full pages.

You can exclude this book from the Library Project by registering it.

If you wish to remove a book labeled "No preview available" on Google Books:

The book in question is one of the many books that we've added to the Google Books index in a metadata-only view. Please keep in mind that this result does not contain copyrighted pages from the book itself -- instead the record shows information about the book, including licensed bibliographic data such as the ISBN, author, publisher, and publication date, as well as search results from public websites. In effect, this is like seeing a library catalog listing online. Our goal is to make the Google Books index as comprehensive as possible. For this reason, we may display multiple entries for a single book, including international editions or previously published versions.

In general, we do not remove metadata-only results from the index. However, if you believe the display of this information violates your rights as a copyright holder, you can file a formal legal complaint and we will review the notice promptly. You can also contact us to learn which third-party source provided the metadata to us.
