Sell books internationally

Important:

  • Google Play Partners can sell eBooks in certain countries/regions. The features described here aren't available in every country/region. Currently, selling audiobooks on Play is available to some partners. Google isn’t currently accepting new audiobook partners. Check back for updates.
  • Pre-orders allow customers to order, but not read, your book before its release date. On the release date, customers who pre-ordered your book are charged for the purchase and they gain access to the book.
  • Due to regulatory requirements, Google can't offer pre-orders in India. Your book will open in the Play Store in India on the on-sale date.

You can sell books on Google Play in many countries/regions. You can also set up your books to sell automatically when a new country/region becomes available.

Set up sales territories

Important: If you created your account after July 2014, you may have a default sales territory set up for worldwide rights.

To sell in a country/region:

  • You must list the country/region in one of your sales territories. You can list countries/regions where you have the rights to sell books, even if Google Play isn't available there yet.
  • Your book must have an active sales territory and a local price. Learn how to set a price for your book.
  1. Go to Google Play Books Partner Centre.
  2. Sign in to your account.
  3. Go to the Payment Centre.

Turn on currency conversion

Important: If you created your account after July 2014, currency conversion is turned on by default.

Currency conversion automatically converts the price of your book to the local currency of a country/region. You can also convert the price to the local currency with ONIX or a spreadsheet.

  1. Go to Google Play Books Partner Centre.
  2. Sign in to your account.
  3. Go to the Payment Centre.
  4. At the bottom, open currency conversion settings.
  5. Select Turn on currency conversion.

Learn more about currency conversion.

Set prices for your books

To sell a book in a country/region, set a price for your book in the local currency. You can set this price in the 'Pricing' tab, in ONIX or with a spreadsheet. To convert your prices from another currency automatically, turn on currency conversion.

If currency conversion is turned on, you must set a price in at least one currency. Then, you can specify the countries/regions where you want to convert your price.

To convert the price of your book in a spreadsheet:

  1. Go to your book catalogue.
  2. Download a spreadsheet of your books.
  3. Open the spreadsheet.
  4. In the price columns, set the price of your books.
  5. With these formatting guidelines, edit the list of countries/regions.

Important: If you don't have the rights to sell a book in a country/region listed in your sales territories, remove that country/region from the list.

Example

Scenario Sales territories Countries/regions with prices
You have rights to sell your books in all countries/regions WORLD WORLD
You have rights to sell some of your books in the US and Canada, and some of your books in the US CA, US

For books sold in the US:

US

For books sold in both countries/regions:

CA, US

Remove manual prices

If you don't set a manual price in the 'Pricing' tab, in ONIX or with a spreadsheet, prices from the currency conversion tool will apply. To use automatically converted prices, remove the manual prices for a country/region.

  1. Go to your book catalogue.
  2. Download a spreadsheet of your books.
  3. Open the spreadsheet.
  4. In the price columns, enter '**' in the rows with book information.
  5. Upload your modified spreadsheet. Your converted prices will replace the manual prices.
