Content review (preview a book before sale)

You can add content reviewers to check how your book appears on Google Play. They'll be able to read the book on any supported device without having to purchase it. You can grant a book to content reviewers even before it's available for sale.

Some features described on this page may not be available, as selling books on Google Play is limited to certain countries.

Notes:

  • This preview feature differs from a book's preview on Google Books. On Google Books, a limited percentage of your book is publicly viewable.
  • Content reviewers, on the other hand, must be specified by you and have access to the entire book.
  • If you see “quality review,” you’re using an old version of our Partner Center.

Requirements to add a content reviewer

  • You can sell books on Google Play.
  • The content reviewer must have a Google Account. If they don’t have one, they can create one for free.
  • The content reviewer must be located in one of the countries where books can be bought on Google Play.
  • Content files for the book must have been provided and successfully processed. Check that the status of the book is either Live on Google Books or Live on Google Play.

Grant a book to a content reviewer

  1. Sign in to the Partner Center.
  2. On the left, click Book Catalog.
  3. Click the title of the book.
  4. Click the Content tab.
  5. Under "Content Reviewers," click the Add button (old version) or Add a reviewer field (new version).
  6. Enter the email address associated with the content reviewer's Google Account.
  7. Click OK. The reviewer's email address should now be listed.
  8. Repeat steps 4--6 to add any additional reviewers.
  9. Click Save.

Review a book

Content reviewers can access their Google Play library to check that they have access to the book. They'll be able to read the book on their computer or supported handheld devices.

Content  reviewers can't copy and paste or print any books that they're granted access to, even if the book's distribution settings allow buyers to do so.

Remove content reviewer’s access to a book

  1. Sign in to the Partner Center.
  2. On the left, click Book Catalog.
  3. Click the title of the book.
  4. Click the Content tab.
  5. Under "Content Reviewers," click Remove (old version) or Remove  trash can icon (new version) next to the email address of the reviewer you wish to remove. The reviewers will still see the book in their accounts, but it will now be an eBook sample instead of the entire book.
