Assign narrators with Character detection
Important: This feature is currently only available for English audiobooks.
- In the "Characters" pane, to enable one-click detection and narrator assignment, click Detect characters.
- This process can take a few minutes.
- In the "Audiobooks text" section, highlight the text for the character and right-click to assign or change the narrator for the character.
- In the "Characters" pane, you can:
- Add characters.
- Delete characters.
- Change the narrator voice and narration speed.
- Review the character occurrences.
- Merge characters.
Tip: You can't undo character detection. You can delete all characters to start over or manually add characters.
Add a character manually
- In the "Characters" pane, click Add a character.
- Enter the character's name.
- Choose a voice and speed.
Mark text spoken by each character
- Highlight the dialogue that you want narrated by the character.
- Under "Additional Characters," right-click the character you want.
- Choose Change Narrator.
- You can also use your keyboard:
- On PC: Press Ctrl + 1 for the first character, press Ctrl + 2 for the second character, and so on, for the first 10 characters.
- On Mac: Press
+ 1 for the first character, press
+ 2 for the second character, and so on, for the first 10 characters.

Tip: Text that's not assigned to a character is spoken by the default narrator.
Change chapter narrator
- For titles with different narrators per chapter, under "Sections," hover over the chapter that you want to edit and click More
.
- Click Change chapter narrator.
- Select the character to narrate the chapter.
- To reset to the title's default narrator, select Default.
Tip: Set the chapter narrator after character detection.
