Custom domain at LetsHost.ie not working

Hi all,

I have a domain with LetsHost.ie (www.rockchickenz.com) and wanted to link my blog rockchickenz.blogspot.com. I sent LetsHost.ie the details for my blog. They confoirmed that they made the changes to the DNS zone.

When I go to www.rockchickenz.com now it shows: http://www.rockchickenz.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi in my browser and a white page with the following error: "Executing in an invalid environment for the supplied use"

Do you know what went wrong here and what I could do to fix this?

Thanks a mill for your help,
Dani

Hi Dani,

Thank you for asking your question about your blog, which is published to a custom domain.

You need to correct your base DNS addresses.  Use the zone editor provided by the registrar, to remove the addresses highlighted in red - and to add the addresses highlighted in green - and keep the addresses highlighted in yellow.

After you correct the addresses, please wait 8 hours (2 x "14400" seconds) before continuing.  This will let all DNS servers on the Internet receive the corrected addresses.

You have (right now, you should see these addresses):

rockchickenz.com. 14400 IN A 78.137.164.51
www.rockchickenz.com. 14400 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.

You need (when finished, you should see these addresses):

rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.32.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.34.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.36.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.38.21
www.rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    CNAME    ghs.google.com.

(Note there may be other addresses, not specified here, which you should not change).

Read, for details:

Ignore, if you wish:

Hi Chuck,

thanks a mill for your answer. My domain provider changed something yesterday and I can see my blog now under my domain. But the start page still has an error.

www.rockchickenz.com still changes to http://www.rockchickenz.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi and it shows Sorry, the page you were looking for in this blog does not exist.
My posts show correct. I have published a test post and it looks fine, also the address in my browser http://www.rockchickenz.com/2016_04_01_archive.html

I have added now

rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.32.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.34.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.36.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.38.21

in my DNS management section and:
www.rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    CNAME    ghs.google.com

Do you think this will resolve the issue with the start page of my blog?

It slowly drives me crazy as all those settings are like Chinese to me. :(

Thank you,
Dani

http://www.digwebinterface.com/?hostnames=rockchickenz.com%0D%0Awww.rockchickenz.com&type=A&ns=resolver&useresolver=8.8.4.4&nameservers=

You have:

rockchickenz.com@8.8.4.4 (Default):
rockchickenz.com. 14399 IN A 78.137.164.51

www.rockchickenz.com@8.8.4.4 (Default):
www.rockchickenz.com. 14399 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.
ghs.google.com. 21392 IN CNAME ghs.l.google.com.
ghs.l.google.com. 92 IN A 64.233.183.121

rockchickenz.com. 14400 IN A 78.137.164.51
www.rockchickenz.com. 14400 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.

It's unfortunate that these settings are like Chinese to you.  You are using a registrar that I have no experience with.  The settings are between you, and SoftLayer - though I will assist you, in evaluating what you have accomplished, any time you make a change.

I've just added a couple details.  Does this make it any clearer?

Every registrar maintains their dashboard (aka "zone editor") and their servers as they see fit.

You can click on the latter link, any time you wish.

You need:

rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.32.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.34.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.36.21
rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    A    216.239.38.21
www.rockchickenz.com. 14400    IN    CNAME    ghs.google.com

It will work - sometimes - for some people.

Maybe it works for you - but can your readers access the blog?  Now, but how about next week?

So if it works for you right now, ask yourself what you did, to make it work.

I had entered the info that you gave me into the DNS settings yesterday. Well, I hope I did it correct. It shows it at least when I open it. :)

TTL is 4 hours ("14400" seconds) - so we'll wait 8 hours, then check.

Ping me in 6 or 7 hours?
