Manage Google+ for Blogger

You can use Google+ to help spread the word about your blog and engage with your readers.

Manage your Google+ settings

To manage Google+ settings in Blogger:

  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. Select the blog to update.
  3. In the left menu, click Google+.

You can also link your blog to a Google+ page to share posts directly to the page. Learn to create a Google+ page.

You can only use one Google+ profile for all blogs you contribute to.

Google+ comments

You can use Google+ comments to bring comments on your Blogger blog posts and Google+ together. You can tell you have Google+ comments if:

  • You see an option to share comments to Google+.
  • As the author of a post, you receive Google+ notifications when readers comment on or share your blog post.

To turn on Google+ comments:

  1. Make sure you’re using Google+ as your profile and your blog is public.
  2. Sign in to Blogger.
  3. Select the blog to update.
  4. In the left menu, click Google+.
  5. Check the box.

To comment on your blog, readers need a Google+ page or profile.

Note: If you change your blog URL or turn off Google+ comments, your Google+ comments will disappear. 

If you used Blogger comments, they will remain on your blog. Third party commenting systems might not be retained when you enable Google+ comments.

Troubleshoot Google+ comments

Comments don’t show:

  • Settings > Posts and Comments > Comment location should not be set to "Hide."
  • In the Post Editor > Post Settings > Options, Reader Comments should be set to "Allow."

If you can’t turn on Google+ comments:

Your blog may have content that cannot be shared. Learn more.

Google+ comments cannot be turned on with Classic Templates.

To use Google+ on custom templates:

Moderate Google+ comments

Once you turn on Google+ comments, “Comments” section will be removed.

To moderate comments:

  1. Open the blog post to moderate comments in.
  2. Next to the comment, click the drop-down arrow and select Remove. You can also point at the comment and click Delete .

The original author of the post can moderate comments. You can also turn on email notifications.

To moderate spam comments, in the blue bar, click Review Comments.

If a comment is shared in Google+, you will not be able to remove it from Google+.

Share your posts to Google+

Automatically share to Google+

Turn automatic sharing on or off

  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. Select the blog to update.
  3. In the left menu, click Google+.
  4. Check or uncheck the box next to "Automatically share after posting."

Automatic sharing doesn't work for:

  • Blogs with adult content
  • Posts created using an API
  • Posts you imported
Choose the posts to share
  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. Select the blog to update.
  3. In the left menu, click Google+.
  4. Check or uncheck "Prompt to share after posting."
If you choose the posts to share, a box will show when you publish a post. You can add a custom message and choose the circles to share with.
Share a blog post
  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. Select the blog you want to update.
  3. In the left menu, click Posts.
  4. Under the post you want to share with Google+, click Share.

Google+ followers

You can add the Google+ followers gadget to your blog.

  1. Check if your page or profile publicly shows your followers.
  2. Sign in to Blogger.
  3. Select the blog to update.
  4. In the left menu, click Layout > Add a gadget.
  5. In the gadget list, find “Google+ followers” and click Add .
  6. On the top right, click Save arrangement.

If the gadget shows up empty, click Google+ in the left menu and check if you selected a valid profile or page.

+1 counter

You can see which posts are popular with the +1 counter.

When readers click the +1 button on a blog post, a box pops up so they can share with their circles on Google+.

If they don’t have Google+, they will be prompted to sign up.

Turn on +1 counter
  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. Select the blog to update.
  3. In the left menu, click Layout.
  4. In the Blog Posts widget, click Edit.
  5. Check Show Share buttons.
See who +1'd your posts
  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. Select the blog to update.
  3. In the left menu, click Posts.
  4. On the post to check, click +1 to see the names and photos of readers who recommended your post.

+1 button (gadget)

You can allow readers to publicly recommend your blog with the +1 button. When they recommend your blog, they share it with their circles.

To add the +1 button gadget to your blog:

  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. Select the blog to update.
  3. In the left menu, click Layout.
  4. In the location you want the +1 button to appear, click Add a gadget.
  5. In the list of gadgets, find +1 Button and click Add .
  6. Decide on the look and feel of your +1 Button, and click Save.

Mentions in Blogger

You can mention a person or Google+ page to let them know that you’re referring to them in your blog post.

To mention someone:

  1. Switch to a Google+ profile.
  2. In the post editor, type “+” or “@,” followed by the name or page.
  3. When a list of names appears, select the person or page you’d like to mention.
