Google home suddenly not able to access dimming on Meross lights 0 Recommended Answers 0 Relevant Answers 14 Replies 6 Upvotes

Hey

Looking for a little help!

I have 3 of the Meross dimmable light switches. I’ve attached the device model etc in the image below. I have them linked into my google home/assistant and for the past 12 months or so they have been working great!! Until yesterday...

Only yesterday the communication between all 3 meross light switches and google appears to have altered. Google has the ability to turn them on and off, but cannot set the dimmable %. In the google home app it won’t even show a slider to alter the %. Yet if I open the meross app, I can alter the % dimmable.

I have tried resetting the light switches, resetting the router, unlinking and relinking meross with google and nothing works. Due to the fact that all 3 lights stopped working at once, I suspect this is an update bug either on googles side or meross that has been pushed in the past 2 days.

Any ideas on how to help?

Thanks!

I am having the same problem. The meross app is operating fine. It is only within the Google app where we are having the problem.

Glad to hear im not the only one. I did factory resets on every light again last night, deleted the app, and started from scratch with a new meross account as well and still no luck.

As stated by others @James, the Meross app is working fine, no issue within the app. Its the google home architecture that is broken. Please escalate this to someone who is more capable thanks James.

Even when you click on the light within google home it briefly flashes for a milisecond the slide bar for dimming then vanishes.

Thanks

Same here. I'm guessing that someone broke something on the Meross (cloud) side, and now the dimming devices are just showing up as non-dimming devices to Google. Either this or Google changed something in the Home API.

So i reached out to Meross

It IS a google related issue. Good to see the worker who responded from google is about as useful at his job as a dead cat.

Dear Tim Wilson,

Thanks for contacting meross.

Recently, Google releases a new policy and get update for that all switches are cancelled the dim function. To solve this problem, we decide to divide the switch into bulb type then you can are able to use Google app to control the meross dimmable switches.
Thanks for your understanding.
Sorry for the inconvenience and trouble caused.

Have a nice day!
Best regards,
Hazel

I'm not even sure if Hazel speaks english too well, but i think she is suggesting to add the switches as "bulbs" in meross instead?

I'll wipe out my Meross app and start from fresh readding them as bulbs to try and see how it goes.

Keep you posted.

I also got a response back from Meross. I don't have the whole backstory, but it appears to be related to an API change on Google's side that forced Meross to change the code on their side, or maybe they're just trying to make the devices show up as light bulbs in Google Home (presuming they didn't before?).

---------------------------------

Sorry for the inconvenience and trouble caused. Currently, we are changing the switch classification due to the regulations from Google (please see the attachment), so it might affect the usage of dimmer function.

Right now, we are working on the classification adjustment in Google Assistant which changes the smart switch into the smart light bulb. In the future, you need to find the smart switch under the light bulb section to dimmer the light. Please stay tuned.
