Android Auto routines not running - but they run fine in Assistant 0 Recommended Answers 14 Replies 152 Upvotes

I'm trying to execute the "I'm Leaving" routine via Android Auto on my Pixel 2, and it isn't working.  I have it set to turn off all the lights in the house, and they all just stay on.  Same issue with the "I'm Home" routine, will not turn them on.  If I unlock the phone and manually trigger the assistant on the phone, both routines execute properly.  I just moved from the Amazon voice system to Google, so I don't know if this is an existing issue or not.  I couldn't find anything on the forums.

When I attempt to run a routine in Android Auto, it tells me that routines are not available yet. That message makes it sound like they will be available at some point, which i think will be great

I created a routine for my garage door opener, but it doesn't work when I'm on Google auto, if I'm out of it, it works perfectly. This really sucks. What's the point?

After using Android Auto with "how's my day" for the last year on my HTC 10 running Android 8.0.0 just after Christmas it's stops working yet using assistant app it's fine.... Make me feel like not using AA to gain voice function but I'll lose the all in one app when driving.... And nothing on the internet saying why it's happened or if it's just a glitch (official announcement that is)

All of a sudden, routines fail during android auto. They worked fine last month. What happened?

I'm having the same issues as well. Routines (such as the built-in "Good Morning" routine) used to work normally both directly in the Google Assistant and when activated in Android Auto. Then suddenly, I was no longer able to activate in Android Auto (received the message "Routines are not currently supported on this device."). Yet they would continue to function directly in the Google Assistant. For a period of time, the language work-around (activating in Android Auto with "Buenos Dias" or "Bonjour") would work and it would run through my Routine in English. That functionality no longer works. I cannot activate in Android Auto (but I can directly in Google Assistant). Very frustrating. I considered the ability to run such a routine in Android Auto to be a safety feature instead of invoking lots of commands one at a time. Please fix!

What did you say to Google? "Good morning" or "Tell me about my day."
How was it recognized by Google? "Good morning" or "Tell me about my day."
What did Google respond if there was any response? "Routines are not currently supported on this device."
Error message: "Routines are not currently supported on this device."
What happened? (any changes? error message?) "Routines are not currently supported on this device."

Same problem I am having, although I just started using AA this week.  I have never witnessed a routine working, just the "...not available...device" message.   Samsung Galaxy S9+

Same problem. Routines work fine outside Android Auto but tells "Routines are not yet available" inside it.
