Why is Google speech recognition so inaccurate all of a sudden? 0 Recommended Answers 81 Replies 281 Upvotes

I've tried changing the speech pattern it has for me. As of upgrading to Android Pie Google's voice recognition has become far less accurate, and has far more incorrect words than before.

Try clearing the app cache of the google app to see if that helps

It used to be much more accurate. It tends to make a lot of mistakes, especially at the start of the sentence.

Every time I say , "comma" it writes karma.

I just dictated a sentence into Gmail, and Google substituted the word "anyting", for "anything".
Why would Google put a misspelled word like that into a sentence?

Yes. Omg I switched from a galaxy 7active to the 10+ bandit gets nothing right anymore.. putting in word combinations that make no sense. And weird ass words that nobody ever fucking uses. And I lived off of voice to text. It's maddening

I've noticed over the past few months (don't know exactly) but the recognition accuracy has deteriorated significantly. I used to brag to my wife and kids (iphone users) how accurate Google was - it used to blow their Siri away but now it is worse than Siri. I used it all the time to make calls or send text by voice. I.e. "Call John Smith"... now it doesn't recognize what I say easily 90% of the time. I'll say "Call John Smith" and Google responds "Who do you want to call?". I will say the name 3 or 4 times and it just won't get it, so then I'll say call "John", and Google responds 'John Smith' or 'John Williams' (smh). It repeats the John Smith perfectly. So why didn't it recognize it when I asked it the first time using the entire name. This is just one of many examples... text is just as bad. It has become unusable for me now.

Hi guys. I have a Moto4 android, and was incurring all the same problems. The solution for me seemed to be changing the keyboard in Settings. After struggling for many months, it appears there had been a system upgrade, which defaulted to an Indian version of the keyboard. If you turn it off this language, then the default app simply becomes Google, and it now works fine.
