Can no longer ask Google questions via Bluetooth in car?

Hi,
I used to be able to ask the Google Assistant questions (like what's the weather or what's the traffic on my way to work) from my car's Bluetooth, but it recently stopped working. I press the Bluetooth button (on the steering wheel) which activates the Google Assistant and it makes the normal bing noise indicating the phone is waiting for verbal input. I ask a question and then nothing happens, almost like it doesn't hear anything. After a few seconds (much quicker than normal) it makes the second "timeout" bing noise. The strange thing is, some functions still work - like I can dictate text messages or ask Google to read my text messages, or I can have it save a reminder, or make a call, all via the button in the car over Bluetooth. So the core assistant functions continue to work but for more general questions there's no response? I'm using a Samsung S6 (yes, I need a new phone) and the car is a BMW. Has anyone else noticed a similar issue? I would say this stopped working after an update to the app maybe 2-4 weeks ago.

Has any changes to this or fixes been released? I see some posts from 2018, but I am having this problem as of today.

Hi, I have a motorcycle helmet with bluetooth and I have the same problem, I can't use the "Ok Google".

In the case of motorcycles, the cell phone is stored in a pocket and it is impossible to touch any button on the cell phone when traveling, the only way is by voice and it is not possible to use the "OK Google" function.

It is very important to correct it and it works!

 Thank you Christian

I'm on a motorcycle and having the same issue. I bought a helmet with integrated Bluetooth specifically to access google assistant to manage calls and get directions/etc.

I can make it work for a minute if I restart everything a ton of times. But as soon as I'm on the road I hold the button to bring up the assistant and I get silence. The phone is listening, but I can't hear a thing. So frustrating! I guess I'm just going to bring the helmet back.

Same issue on two different cars. One stopped working a few weeks ago and the other is brand new so creating a new Bluetooth connection isn't the answer.

Same problem here. Can use my bluetooth headset without a problem (bose quietcomfort 35 II), microphone is working fine with phones calls, but google assistant keeps detecting on the phone's microphone instead of the one in the headset.

@Google, can you do something PLS?

EDIT: to changes many parameters and reboot phone, but did not help.

I have a solution that REALLY WORKS. It's a bit lame though. Switch off the bluetooth and wire it...aux jack. Yeah, I know it's going backwards in technology...but it does work....
