Google Assistant voice using US English despite all settings set for Australian English. Was working fine with Australian English till today. 3 Recommended Answers 8 Replies 74 Upvotes

Get Google Assistant to use Australian English again. Till today working fine with Australian English voice on and off line but now only answers with US English accent despite all setting set for Australian English

I don't know how useful (if at all) this will be for the Google home device users (I have never used one so don't know how you interface with the settings) but I may be onto something with phones.

I changed phones yesterday and noticed today that GA was speaking in a very robotic and lifeless generic American accent. Proceeding to GA settings I found the language was set to English US so I changed that to English UK. This didn't solve the issue - I was still being presented with the same set of US voices in GA voice settings. I then however checked the actual system language settings (for the phone itself) to find they were English US by default (I'm from the UK so that was a bit odd but perhaps my fault during initial set up). Having set it to UK and rebooted, low and behold, the nice English GA is back.
