I am trying to schedule a routine tied to my Google Assistant connected Sonos speaker.  However, even though my speaker is on, I get a “Your device Sonos is currently offline” every time it tries to execute the routine.  Any help would be very welcome!

Make sure you have your device set up.  If it is then be sure you have all of these:

  • A speaker, Smart Display, or Smart Clock with the Google Assistant built in
  • Google Home app
  • Google app
  • A Google Account
  • A mobile phone or tablet that:
    • Has Android 5.0 or higher (phone) or Android 6.0 or higher (tablet)
    • Has its language set to an option listed above
    • Works with a 5GHz Wi-Fi network (a WPA2-Enterprise network won’t work)
    • Has Bluetooth turned on
  • An internet connection and secure wireless network
Then go through the Google home app in making sure your device is set up and it is working on it's own before you try a routine.

Thanks for the reply.  My speaker is a Sonos Beam with built in Google Assistant support.  Google Assistant will work on it for voice queries and command/control of my smart devices (i.e., "Okay Google, Turn on the living room lights.").  It is just the routines that are not working.

Okay so does it show up as a device?
Or if you are creating a routine can you use the phrase "turn on the Sonos Beam (or whatever the name is)".  in the routine command>?

Same issue with a Sonos One Speaker -

I'm guessing this is SPECIFIC  to SONOS ONE as an Assistant Device

+1. Same issue on Sonos One - voice queries and routines triggered by choice commands work, but automatic routines (e.g. my daily routine that occurs at 8:30 AM) fail with a message "Your selected device [DEVICE] is currently offline" every time

Same problem for me. Voice commands work great with all of my Sonos One speakers. But Routines fail at their scheduled run times. I get the same error message from Google Assistant, just like the O. P.  I am going to check in with Sonos Support and will report back here.

What’s odd is that this worked perfect with my Sonos speakers until sometime a few months ago — now it never works.  I’d be interested to hear the solution.  At this point, it feels like we need to add an actual Google device to execute routines, which is unfortunate given the Sonos has worked before.

@Bryan, yes, I agree. Ordered a Google Home speaker today. On sale at BestBuy for $29!

Now I’m hoping I can assign my many Routines to the new speaker without having to retype them. Tedious job!

At least the voice commands are working well, so I’m able to bark orders at the Sonos speakers I have sprinkled all around the house.
