Hey Annette Deguch, thanks for reaching out to Google Assistant Help Community.
I am very sorry to let you know that accessing or managing your Cookbooks on Google Assistant enabled smart displays are now deprecated. You can see the detailed announcement here.
At this point the best thing you can do is send feedback directly to the Google team by saying "Hey Google, send feedback". Hope they take necessary decisions on this.
Kind regards.

You can’t even use the worthless piece of junk to view a recipe using the web browser as it times out and disappears from the screen.
What a complete joke.

So glad we managed to get it back or we would have been really struggling. Absolutely no help from Google at all. Again, thank you!

Even though I can find a recipe on my phone and cast it to the hub max, it's not the same. I still have to utilize my phone. Utter nonsense..
Even lately the Google Assistant doesn't understand what is asked and I have to speak extra slow, and I don't speak fast to begin with, and it is very frustrating.
The hub Max and I have nest doorbell, and quite a few minis. Because I liked Google over Alexa, years ago. But now I am wandering about my decision.
I am not sure if Google's employee force has decreased so much that they had to decrease what their AI abilities are able to do, and that is why they got rid of the recipes capability.
Come on Google, show us you're the leader and better than Amazon's Alexa AI!

Your recipes are still "saved" in a "Collection" called "Cookbook". Access it through https://www.google.com/interests/saved
It seems like the cookbook is read-only which means it's not possible to add recipes to the "official" cookbook.
I always search for 'google saved' and I eventually figure out how to access it. There has to be a better solution!
Another thing I've done is taken my recipe links and saved them at archive.org so that the contents won't just disappear (I once lost my children's favourite kruidnootjes recipe and managed to get it back through some luck and a lot of persistence from an ancient archive I'd made).
PS You may be able to access collections via the Google app on a cell phone (but, since I hate the Google app I never use it).
