How do I stop the Google Home Mini from repeating the command I just gave it?

I've gone through the settings to see if there's a clear option to make the Assistant stop repeating the commands I give it but I can't find such n option.
I'm loving what it can do but it gets tiresome to hear it say everything I just said, can't it just do what I ask it to do and only speak when it doesn't understand or can't do what I ask it to do?

There isn't any official configuration to allow you to do this. What @Erin Fuller 2770 has done is a workaround which leverages the fact that a Google speaker or display doesn't repeat a lighting automation command back to you if the light is placed in the same Google Home app room as itself.

I'm all for people using workarounds if they work for them, but you should note:
  • This will only work for lighting commands, it won't stop the Google Assistant acknowledging that you've asked it to turn off a smart plug, camera, etc.
  • This may not work if you're using a third party Google Assistant enabled device, e.g. we have a Sonos Beam, and that replies to us even when it's in the same room as a light...
  • This means you'll have to be more specific with all of your home automation commands. In the example of say a kitchen and a living room both having a Google Nest speaker or display and lights to control, you may have been used to saying "lights off" whilst in the kitchen to switch just the kitchen lights off. If you move all the devices in our example into one virtual room within the Google Home app, physically standing in the kitchen and requesting "lights off" would result in all the lights in the household being turned off, possibly plunging someone in another room into unexpected darkness.

Hi Christopher,

There isn't an option for stopping the response given after a command is issued on the Google Home currently. Please use the link below for information on how to leave feedback for the Google Home team and suggest this as a feature request.

Thanks,
Cathal

Hello all,

With relation to light commands, a much requested feature change to enable you to turn off your lights without a detailed verbal response from the device was recently rolled out. You can read more about the change here.

@Christoper N. Doke: you appear to be describing the change that is detailed here:

The difference is likely which lights you are issuing commands about and whether or not the Google home speakers you're using are assigned to the same room within the Google Home app.

I have no idea why, but frustratingly Google have only made this change for lighting and not other devices. I can only hope that they're monitoring how it's working and will in time evolve the functionality to include other devices.

It's the reaffirm command for the lights yeah.
But weirdly enough it's only working with one of my 2 minis.

Google just needs us to give us the option to turn feedback off.

I found a workaround: Set up routines which start with "mute all", then execute your command, then "unmute all". Clumsy - but I did get the desired result.

It depends on the what room your google home is linked to and the device you are activating. For example if I say to the Google home in my master bedroom turn on the master bedroom light the Google home will not respond because I can see the effects of turning on the light. But if I say turn on the kitchen light while I’m in the master bedroom giving the command to the master bedroom Google home it will Respond in letting you know that the light is on because you’re not in the same room as the activated device.

I’ve had the google home since first release, it does get very annoying hearing the command repeated. What I usually do is as soon as I ask for a task, say “hey google” immediately after. It will complete said task then wait for what you say next then go back to sleep. For example “hey google, turn on the kitchen light. Hey google.” Done.

No idea if anyone is still checking this thread... But I figured it out? If you place all devices in one room but do not change the name of the devices, everything is chime only!!! Yay!

I had everything separated out - bedroom kitchen office... I left the individual names the same "kitchen lights" "bedroom lights" but used one room as the "location" for them all. So instead of having bedroom, kitchen, etc, I have placed them all in a room titled "apartment." Because everything is in the same room, chime only. For both turning things off and on. Freaking amazingly better.

Also, it still works for "bedroom lights" as well as separate, bedroom light 1, bedroom light 2...

Hopefully, this helps someone else, it was a huge relief to me!!!

Hi. Could you please share how did you disable Google Mini to provide voice feedback on every command executed? Thanks a lot.

Just ask your google home mini to "turn on night mode" and it will respond with a simple chime for all commands until verbally turned off or changed in the settings on the google home app.
