Yes sadly I have done everything I can find in the search. The function works but I don't get how can I help you response. So if the phones not in my sight I don't know if it's working or not..

My husband had this problem. It turned out that in the settings, he had the sound for media turn off. He even spoke with a  tech guy for about an hour and he never figured it out.

This is weird, but I was in a similar situation;  I could use Google assistant but there was no activation sound, nor a sound for when i was processing what I had asked the Assistant (y'know, when the 4 circles are spinning around).  I got both of these sounds when I was using Android Auto though.  I went into the Settings, and clicked on Accessibility.  There is an option called "Accessibility Menu."  I turned that on and all of sudden I had activation sounds again.  Then I turned it off and the Google Assistant sounds went away again.  I have McAfee Security installed on my phone.  It was in the Accesibility settings under "Downloaded Services".  I turned on it's option, and again all of a sudden my activation sounds are back.

I still can solve this problem. I have a galaxy note 10. I went into accessibility, but I wasn't sure what I was suppose to turn on. Under screen reader, there is a voice assistant toggle. I turned that on, and the beeper came back, but my phone was also reading everything thing I clicked on!
