Reminders are currently not available for GSuite users?
1
I just asked the Google Home Mini on my desk to remind me to put my laundry in the dryer in an hour or so. I often do this, so I won't forget and leave soggy laundry in the machine. To my surprise, I got the reply

"Reminders are currently not available for GSuite users"

What's up? Assistant is already so limited in functionality for we paying customers, that if I can't even use reminders, there seems very little point in me having it at all.

Same problem for me too. Was all working fine earlier this week. Starting around Aug 8, 2019, I cannot add any reminders. Does not work with Google Home device and also does not work on my phone using Google Assistant. In fact, I cannot even edit existing reminders. In all cases, Google either says or displays the same error message: "Sorry reminders are currently not available for G Suite users".

My existing reminders still pop up but I cannot edit them or create new ones.

I googled this error message last night and found no hits. Starting today I see other people reporting the error online.

I actually had quite the long chat with Gsuite Support and they said that although the post says it "came from them" they have no knowledge of it and cannot offer support about the integration issue because "as previously stated, google home reminders are not part of Gsuite."  The google home team also said that they couldn't really help me because "as it says in the information sheet on google home, it does not support an integration with Gsuite."   Super annoying to have a paid Google service that doesn't play nice with the rest of the Google family.  I do wonder if this has anything to do with the less secure apps changes notification all us admins got a few weeks back.

Here is the full Gsuite transcript if anyone is interested...

Chat Subject: Why was the integration between google reminders and google home removed at midnight yesterday (Aug 8th?)

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Thank you for contacting G Suite Support. My name is Nick and I'll be working with you today. While I read over your message, is there anything else you'd like to add?

Lauren G: I am currently on the phone with google home

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Hi Lauren!

Google Cloud Support, Nick: You will indeed need to check with the Google Home support team for assistance with this.

Google Cloud Support, Nick: On our side, we only support the main Calendar features, not integrated with any other service, even Google ones such as Home.

Lauren G: I already did, they made me reach out to you to see why this integration was turned off so abruptly and without notice to existing gsuite users

Lauren G: as this change was initiated by the gsuite team Google Cloud Support, Nick: Let me take a few minutes to look into this and see what I can find.

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Please wait.

Lauren G: thank you!

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Thanks for waiting, Lauren. I looked everywhere and we have not received any updates about it internally, nor is there any public post from Google that announces this change.

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Are you sure this only affects G Suite customers and not Google accounts in general?

Lauren G: I am sure

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Hmm, so the feature you need still works on personal @gmail.com accounts?

Lauren G: There was a post about it on the gsuite forum to make the announcement

Lauren G: I have not tried it. I need it it to work with my suite calendar not my normal gmail

Lauren G: I will give you the link here in a moment

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Thanks, that will be very helpful as I don't seem to be able to find any news on this coming directly from Google.

Google Cloud Support, Nick: All I come across are third party articles.

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Looking at a post on Reddit, a user there says it doesn't work on either Google account, in or out of G Suite.

Google Cloud Support, Nick: So personal @gmail.com accounts seem to be affected by the changes as well if I understand correctly.

Google Cloud Support, Nick: If this is the case the update should have come from the Google Home team and not the G Suite team. Which still doesn't excuse Google from not announcing it, but I won't be able to push anyone on my end.

Lauren G: no issues are showing for personal, only Gsuite. it was pushed from Gsuite team

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Ok, let me check with my colleagues and see what we can do about this.

Lauren G: Thanks!

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Thanks for waiting, Lauren. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but after consulting with a specialist, I was advised that, as I said before, neither Google Home nor Google Assistant are covered by G Suite support as they're not part of the G Suite services - they're just a general Google account feature. You can see it in the supports ToS at https://gsuite.google.com/intl/en/terms/tssg.html where at the top of the page, it specifically says For clarity, Google will have no obligation under the Agreement (or these Guidelines) to provide support for any of the services set forth at the following URL: https://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=181865 (the actualy scope of support is defined here https://support.google.com/a/answer/6336670?hl=en

Google Cloud Support, Nick: This may sound odd and to be fair, it actually is, but we don't have anyone on the G Suite team that is given the job of announcing changes like this. So as much as I want to push someone to make the announcement and avoid this from happening in the future, there just isn't anyone who could do it.

Lauren G: I hear what you are saying

Google Cloud Support, Nick: In any other case we could expect this to be announced on the forum https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/ or at least the release calendar https://gsuite.google.com/whatsnew/calendar/ but since neither service is a part of G Suite, they wouldn't go there, even if they are specific to G Suite users only.

Lauren G: I am actually not looking for support. I am just looking for information about why the gsuite pushed this update cutting off the integration without notifying us

Google Cloud Support, Nick: I do understand that and I'm sorry, but if anyone can help you find that information, it's not our support team.

Lauren G: alrighty. Well this is all very disappointing but I appreciate your time

Google Cloud Support, Nick: I agree and once again I'm sorry, I realize how frustrating this is because we've run into similar issues before. Unfortunately it is what it is. Thank you for your understanding Lauren.

Google Cloud Support, Nick: I guess this is all for now?

Lauren G: That is all. Have a good weekend

Google Cloud Support, Nick: Thank you :) You too!

I'm starting to look at alternatives to google and g suite - I've really become habituated to voice control in general and lean heavily on voice driven reminders, I need to create reminders when dirving and walking jobsites, then view reminders when driving, when walking jobsites and when back at my desk..I'm still able to use OK google when I have navigation on, so I've disabled the assistant and can access a great deal of function through maps, but how bizarre and how useless when I'm on site and not in Auto mode.
I'm able to sweep up timed reminders with Tasks, so I've made an "incoming" list in task ad sweep up all my reminders there then move them to my Today list after review.
This is better than nothing, but is far less buttery than things were last week and is not really a desirable long term scenario.
Maybe we should turn this into a thread on alternatives to google which seems more likely to be a productive conversation than this unanswered litany of grievances. I believe there may, in fact, be life after google LOL

Read the transcript from Goldie (above).  It is enlightening, and I highly recommend it.

These are the sounds of a company that's not structured to care about users, and has little incentive to change.  The one signal Google truly feels is ad revenue.  This, literally, is the cash value of users at Google.  As evidenced both here and in numerous prior feature lapses, paying for GSuite won't buy you extra consideration in this reckoning, but it can serve as a strike against you.  Absent a way to change this, your complaints and opinions will continue to fall on deaf ears.

These sorts of unannounced service/feature lapses with Google+Android+GSuite have been happening for years.  I've been in denial, telling myself that things will get better, and I only have myself to blame.

Turning off features for your most loyal customers doesn't make business sense.  Those of us who are gsuite users are either paying customers, or have been using Google for a very long time, and got grandfathered in using our own domains... or in my case, both.  Why do they keep treating their best customers like 2nd rate citizens?  Very frustrating!  Come on Google, get this feature re-enabled for us.

It's stuff like this which pushes me away from G Suite. Everytime Google does something like this it makes the cost of switching my domain to Office 365 seem more bearable. If I can't set a voice reminder on the mini in my office what's the point of being in the Google ecosystem.

Ridiculous. I was on chat with support and he wasn't even aware that it used to work. His solution was to get me to add gmail account but then everything I have done with the assistant over the last few years goes away. Google use to be a proactive innovative 'voice of the customer' company. Now they have become another huge business that has totally lost touch with their users. The Pixel is a growing train wreck and their G-Suite, Google Home and other items are becoming more proprietary and limited.

This is actually disruptive to businesses (like my family's) who rely on the ability to set a very quick reminder - in the moment - to be successful. I'm sure some subset of people who say they are going to leave will do so. I don't really have much of a choice anymore - I have to. What was so smooth and dependable is now quickly becoming unreliable. And this is just another example.

We're spending over ~$2,600/month at my organization for G Suite service that one day boasts that it's improving functionality (adding Assistant) then arbitrarily removes the single most useful feature of Assistant (setting reminders by voice) AND WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING. Google wants to look like it's taking enterprise services seriously but clearly their actions speak otherwise. This is why 90% of large enterprise is all Microsoft and won't even consider G Suite.

Not to mention many other crippled features like Assistant on home devices STILL doesn't work with calendar.

I'm certain that consumer feature integrations with G Suite are difficult when they have to keep enterprise security as a top priority.

HOWEVER, the complete lack of communication to customers is asinine and clearly demonstrates the dysfunction within Google. I have several friends that work at Google who confirm this generalized assessment.

So here's some advice to the product managers:

Just respect your customers and at least admit that there are technical hurdles to overcome and let us know there's a committed team that have prioritized fixing this. Right now we're all on this forum just blowing in the wind and getting ever closer do ditching this B.S. At this stage the least you can do is inform your support staff so they can calm the crowd of angry customers.

My organization also uses Azure/365 and it's not far-fetched for us to consider migrating fully. DO consider that a threat GOOGLE.

I've had my domain since they were first available and it's essentially impossible to switch to a normal account at this point because of everything tied to it. Either cancel G Suite completely or bring over all the features that regular Gmail users have access to. It is a real shame someone from Google hasn’t commented yet. Unbelievable!

This is very unfortunate. I think I'm going to stop paying for gsuite because of this.

Exactly - Google treats paying customers worse than those who use their free services.

Who can we tweet at about this? Where can we get our feedback to the people who are actually making these decisions?

Same thing is happening to me. Makes my phone and Google home devices useless. Please Google, not all G suite users are part of a corporation with all these security policies and rules. Many of use just prefer to use our own domain. I've been using a G suit account for years and I can participate in less and less Google/gmail stuff. No Family plans with youtube tv, music, or anything. This is not available, that is not available.... It's a bummer. but then you randomly and without warning take away features we could and do use. PLEASE COMMUNICATE with your paying customers. Explain why you do things. Since I can't swear without violating the community policy, GOSH DARN IT, THIS REALLY STINKS! Bad Google!

I've raised the issue with the Community and Product managers last week and they are aware of the issue. I didn't get a reason why. However they noted this and other threads. I'll reach out for an update and report back.

If you want to get the attention of the Assistant team, the best way is to leverage the feedback option.

"Hey Google... Leave Feedback"  "Please fix reminders with G Suite"

Yeah, this is pretty terrible. I used reminders through Google Assistant ALL THE TIME. Now my Android phone feels half as functional as before and my productiveness is really down :(

We need to get this fixed ASAP, otherwise I might need to consider my iPhone again urghhh.

this has not been working for me for months but it finally started working today. Can others confirm if it is working for them I'm concerned it might just be a flute that will go away

Never mind it's not working again but it did expose a weird workaround which is it seems to allow me to set reminders when I don't have an internet connection. So it worked when I did not have data on my phone. However if I also put my phone into airplane mode it will work not sure if that will help anyone.

I've had an iPhone for the past 7 years, and decided to come back to android with a Pixel 3 this year. All I can say is this sucks. Thanks Google.
