Google Assistant not showing after saying "OK Google"

Ok, this is happening as of today. When I use the "OK Google" voice command I hear the tone that sounds when the Assistant opens, but the Assistant is not showing up on my screen. I've tried restarting rhe Google app, restarting the phone, using different launchers and it still happens.

Is anyone else experiencing this? My OnePlus 7T is the US T-Mobile variant, with the June 2021 security patch installed and all apps updated. I suspect the patch may be the problem, as everything was working correctly before the update

This is a pretty widespread issue right now Daniel, I'm posting what worked for me in the hopes that it is replicated by others and maybe will lead to a permanent fix soon

I'm having this issue too, with a Galaxy S21 Ultra, and have been tinkering around trying to figure out what the cause could be. I think it might have to do with the new "Lock Screen" feature.

1) If Hey Google does not show overlay in unlocked mode, Lock phone, initiate "Hey Google." If the overlay shows up, unlock phone and it should work for a while.

2) If "Hey Google" is not responsive in lock screen, go to assistant settings, disable and then re-enable the feature, and then try the steps listed on the first step.

It's a pain but it's working right now as a janky workaround for me.

Thanks!
Worked also for me with a Samsung A32 and Google App 12.24.10.23

Everyone

This issue has been escalated to the Google product team for further investigation.

Currently facing the same issue with Google version 12.24.10.23. Tried the method of locking the device and then playing the google trigger. This appeared to work initially but did not last long and shortly after, Google assistant went back to only providing audio responses and no visual response. Temporarily uninstalled updates in the Google app and using version 11.30.9.21 until this is fixed.

@participant yeah I've had to redo the steps multiple times as the fix I found doesn't stick. Might just do a rollback myself

I have tried the lock screen method of invoking the Assistant, and it seems to work in unlock mode for the moment. I also have version 12.23. 10.23 on my OnePlus 7T, so I guess it's a version-specific issue.

I have also fixed it by triggering the assistant during the screen being looked, i do then unlock it and it will work from that point on when unlocked ..
