Create and manage tasks

You can create, edit and delete tasks with Google Assistant. Task notifications may be restricted or blocked if you use Digital Wellbeing tools like Downtime or Filters.

Tip: For Digital Wellbeing to work correctly, your devices and apps must be up to date.

Set up tasks

To use tasks on a shared Google Assistant device, like a speaker or smart display, turn on personal results and set up Voice Match.

Create a task

With Google Assistant 

You can ask Google Assistant to create a task for you. For example, you can say:

  • "Hey Google, create a task."
  • "Hey Google, remind me to call mum at noon tomorrow."

On the web 

To set a task in a browser, open Google Tasks. You can also access tasks in Gmail and Google Calendar.

Check your tasks

With Google Assistant

You can ask Google Assistant to tell you your tasks. For example, you can say:

  • "Hey Google, show me my tasks."
  • "Hey Google, what are my tasks?"

On the web

To get a list of your tasks, go to Google Tasks . You can also access Google Tasks in Gmail and Google Calendar.

In the Google Assistant app

On your Android phone or tablet, say "Hey Google, open Tasks".

Tip: You can also get a few upcoming tasks when you say, "Hey Google, show my tasks".

In the Google app

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open your Google app Google app.
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Tasks.

Manage your tasks

Edit a task on your phone

You can manage your tasks in the Google Assistant settings.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, say "Hey Google, open Tasks".
  2. Tap the task you want to edit.
  3. Select your preferences.

Edit a task with your voice

You can change a task’s details, like the time. For example, you can say, "Hey Google, change my task to buy milk to 5 p.m.”.

Complete a task

When you don’t need a task any more, you can mark it as completed.
On a phone
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings".
  2. Under "All settings", tap Tasks.
  3. Tick the circle next to the task you want to mark as completed.
On a computer
  1. On your computer, go to Google Reminders.
  2. Tick the circle next to the task you want to mark as completed.

Delete a task

You can delete a single task or all of your tasks. For example, you can say:
  • "Hey Google, delete my task to empty the dishwasher."
  • "Hey Google, delete all of my tasks."

Manage your task notifications

Important: Settings can vary by phone. For more info, contact your device manufacturer.

In Assistant settings

  1. Open your phone or tablet.
  2. Say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings".
  3. Tap See all Assistant settings  and then Notifications  and then View all phone notification types  and then Tasks.
  4. Turn tasks on or off.

Tip: To turn off task notifications from the Google Tasks and/or Google Calendar apps, go to the notification settings for each app.
