  • Speakers that work with “Hey Google,” except some Bose or Sonos, JBL Authentics speakers
  • All Smart Displays
  • Smart Clocks

When Continued Conversation is on, it’ll work on all your speakers and Smart Displays.

Important: This feature is only available in English.

To turn Continued Conversation on or off:

  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Assistant settings and then Assistant and then Continued Conversation.
  3. Turn Continued Conversation on or off.

Have a conversation

Important: You can’t use Continued Conversation while you’re on a phone call or during an alarm.

To have a conversation:

  1. Say "Hey Google" and ask your question or say a command.
  2. Listen to the answer.
  3. Ask another question or say a command.
    • When Continued Conversation is on, Google Assistant listens for follow-up questions for about 8 seconds.

Tip: Assistant is listening if the lights on your speaker are moving or the white circle in the top left corner of your Smart Display screen is visible.

End the conversation

To end the conversation, you can start talking to someone else, stop talking, or say a command like:

  • "Thanks."
  • "Thank you."
  • "Stop listening."
  • "I'm done."
  • "We're done."

Have a conversation with multiple people

After someone says "Hey Google" to start a conversation, anyone in the room can participate. One person can ask a question, then someone else can ask a follow-up question.

Tip: Assistant will access the personal results of the person who starts the conversation if they have Voice Match set up. If someone else asks a follow-up question and wants to get their own personal results, like what’s next on their calendar, that person must start a new conversation.
