Set up your Google Assistant on headphones

You can use Google Assistant on headphones to get help on the go.

Important: Not all Google Assistant devices work the same. For device-specific instructions, contact your manufacturer.

What you need

  • An iPhone 5 or newer with:
  • Headphones optimized for the Google Assistant

Get started

  1. Make sure your iPhone is connected to the Internet.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth.
  3. Turn on your headphones.
  4. When your headphones appear under "My Devices," tap them to connect.
  5. Install and open the Google Assistant app.
  6. When asked to link your headphones to the Google Assistant app, tap Connect.
  7. During the connection process, tap Pair to let your headphones pair with your iPhone.
  8. Follow the steps to set up your Google Assistant.

Important: When you set up your Google Assistant on your headphones, Assistant features are enabled for any Google accounts that are active on your phone. Any time you talk to the Assistant through your headphones, your Google account will be used for personal answers like calendar or email. If you want to use a different Google Account, learn how to change your settings.

Start a conversation

Before you start, refer to your headphone’s instruction manual or packaging to find the button or touch area used to talk to your Google Assistant.

  1. On your headphones, press and hold the button or touch area to talk to your Google Assistant.
    • Tip: You’ll hear a tone when you activate your Google Assistant, but you don’t need to wait until you hear the tone to start talking.
  2. Ask a question or say a command.
  3. Release the button or touch area when you’re done talking.
