Get started with the Google Assistant on your device
You can find info and get things done with the help of your Google Assistant. Ask it questions and tell it to do things.
Languages you can use
On Android devices, the Google Assistant is available in Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal) , Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese. More languages are coming soon.
What you need
To use the Google Assistant, you’ll need a device with:
- Android 5.0+ with at least 1.0GB of memory or
- Android 6.0+ with at least 1.5GB of memory
- Google app 6.13 or higher
- Google Play services
- 720p or higher screen resolution
- Device's language set to a language listed above
Check your Android version
Check your Google app version
- On your device, open the Google app

- On the Home screen, tap Menu

- Look for the version number at the top.
- If your version is below 6.13, go to the Google app page, then tap Update.
Check if you have Google Play services
- On your device, go to the Google Play services page.
- Tap Install. If you see "Uninstall" or "Deactivate," you already have Google Play services.
Start a conversation
- On your device, touch and hold the Home button or say "Ok Google." If the Google Assistant is off, you'll be asked to turn it on.
Tip: On some devices, you can also say "Hey Google." - Ask a question or say a command.
Tip: On devices running Android 8.0 and up, you can also talk to the Google Assistant when your device is locked by saying "Ok Google." Learn how to control what information you see and hear on your lock screen.
