Refunds, returns, voids, and cancellations
Merchants handle refunds, returns, cancellations, and voided transactions paid for with Android Pay the same way as any other payment method with one important exception.
To process a refund or void a transaction, you may be required to ask the customer to provide the last 4 digits of the card they used in their transaction. These 4 digits should be from their virtual account number rather than the actual card number. Here’s how customers can locate their virtual account number in Android Pay.
With this information, merchants post the refund or authorization reversal to the token, and the acquirer posts the refund or voids the transaction to the customer’s actual credit card number.
Android Pay supports partial refunds and goodwill or over-refunds in which more money is refunded to a customer than they paid in their initial transaction. Merchants perform these processes as they would for transactions completed with any other payment method.
